152nd Independent Air Assault Battalion
The 152nd Independent Air Assault Battalion, known simply as the Airborne Forces of Turkmenistan ( tk, Türkmenistanyň Howa Desant Goşunlary) is the official paratrooper unit of the Armed Forces of Turkmenistan. History The unit descends from the 56th Guards Air Assault Brigade of the Soviet Airborne. The brigade itself descends from the 105th Guards Vienna Airborne Division. After returning from service in Afghanistan during Operation Magistral, the brigade crossed the border in June 1988 into the Turkmen Soviet Socialist Republic, during the Soviet withdrawal from Afghanistan, being based out of Ýolöten. After the dissolution of the Soviet Union in 1991, the brigade was withdrawn to the Russian Federation. Despite this, its 4th battalion remained in Ýolöten. This battalion was included in the structure of the formed Turkmen Ground Forces. On 15 December 1994, the 4th Battalion, 5th DSB was dissolved and renamed given its current name. The Scorpion 25th Special Forces Brigade () or known simply as Scorpion Spetsnaz (''Спецназ Скорпион'') is a specialized Kyrgyz military unit in the country's Kyrgyz Army, Ground Forces. The 36th Air Assault Brigade is an air assault brigade of the Kazakh Air Assault Forces. It is based in Astana. History In 2002, the brigade was formed in Astana from the 46th Special Purpose Detachment. At the time, it only consisted of the 260th Air Assault Battalion, an artillery battalion and reconnaissance units. The 7th Airborne Assault Brigade ( tg, Бригадаи 7-уми ҳамла ба десанти) is a paratrooper unit of the Tajik Mobile Forces. The Mobile Forces act as the special forces of Tajikistan, subservient to the Defense Ministry. Located in Dushanbe, it forms the backbone of the mobile forces. Ýolöten (russian: Ёлoтен, tk, یوْلؤتن Ёлөтен) is a city and capital of Ýolöten District, Mary Province, Turkmenistan. The city is located in the delta of the Murghab River, 55 kilometers southeast of Mary. It was granted the status of a city in 1939. Etymology Atanyyazow attributes the name to the settlement's location on the Silk Road between ancient Merv and Herat. The words ''ýol'' and ''öten'' mean "road" and "past" in Turkmen, respectively, i.e., "a place to cross". Mary, Turkmenistan
Mary (), formerly named Merv, Meru and Alexandria Margiana, is a city on an oasis in the Karakum Desert in Turkmenistan, located on the Murgab River. It is the capital city of Mary Region.
