14 Bis (band)
14 Bis is a Brazilian pop-rock band. The band took its name from Santos-Dumont's 14 Bis airplane. The band was formed in 1979 in the state of Minas Gerais, when the members of two bands, O Terço and "Bendegó" decided to merge. Flávio Venturini and Vermelho, two founding members of 14 Bis, were also members of the Clube da Esquina band. Música popular brasileira is a strong element in many of 14 Bis compositions. Clube da Esquina (, , in English "Corner Club") was a Brazilian music artists collective, originating in the Brazilian state of Minas Gerais. It is also the name of a double album from 1972. Clube da Esquina mixes rock and roll, progressive rock, bossa nova and jazz styles, with Brazilian folk music and classical music influences. Flávio Hugo Venturini (born July 23, 1949) is a Brazilian singer and songwriter. Biography Venturini took an early interest in music at the age of three. When he was fifteen he began his musical training. His first musical instrument was the accordion. After his father presented him with a piano, he started his studies at the Fundação de Educação Artística in Belo Horizonte, where he studied musical perception and piano. Venturini was revealed in the 1970s by the musical movement Clube da Esquina, together with Milton Nascimento, Lô Borges, Beto Guedes, among others. O Terço
O Terço was one of the first progressive rock bands from Brazil. The band, whose name means "rosary beads" in Portuguese, first formed in 1968. Personnel changes would become part of the bands dynamic, with Sergio Hinds assuming the role of band anchor. The group owed a lot of its early sound to such Italian favorites as Locanda Delle Fate, Quella Vecchia Locanda, and Premiata Forneria Marconi. They also managed to mix in other styles, like folk, and the most important: MPB (Brazilian Popular Music), which made the band sound a little bit like Milton Nascimento, Tom Jobim and other great Brazilian artists. On their first album, '' O Terço'' (1970) was not yet full on prog, but it is a seminal work in the history Brazilian progressive music. The ''14-bis'' (french: Quatorze-bis), (), also known as ("bird of prey" in French), was a pioneer era, canard-style biplane designed and built by Brazilian aviation pioneer Alberto Santos-Dumont. In 1906, near Paris, the ''14-bis'' made a manned powered flight that was the first to be publicly witnessed by a crowd. Background In June 1905, French aviator Gabriel Voisin had flown a glider towed by a fast boat on the river Seine, making a flight of over . The glider's wing and tail were made up of Hargrave cells, a box kite-like structure that provided a degree of inherent stability. Alberto Santos-Dumont ( Palmira, 20 July 1873 — Guarujá, 23 July 1932) was a Brazilian aeronaut, sportsman, inventor, and one of the few people to have contributed significantly to the early development of both lighter-than-air and heavier-than-air aircraft. The heir of a wealthy family of coffee producers, he dedicated himself to aeronautical study and experimentation in Paris, where he spent most of his adult life. He designed, built, and flew the first powered airships and won the Deutsch Prize in 1901, when he flew around the Eiffel Tower in his airship No. 6, becoming one of the most famous people in the world in the early 20th century. Luís Cláudio Venturini (born 14 August 1958) is a Brazilian guitarist, vocalist and composer. With his elder brother ''Flávio Venturini'', he began his career taking part in the album ''A Via Láctea'' of the friend Lô Borges in 1978. One year later he was co-founder of the band 14 Bis, formerly besides his brother Flávio and where he persists nowadays. In 1987, when Flávio left the group, Cláudio became the main vocalist of the band.
