Champlain (provincial Electoral District)
Champlain is a provincial electoral riding in the Mauricie region of Quebec, Canada, which elects members to the National Assembly of Quebec. It notably includes the eastern portions of the city of Trois-Rivières as well as Saint-Tite, Saint-Maurice and Sainte-Thècle. Its boundaries have remained the same since the 1973 election. However, the boundaries changed for the 2018 election as it gained Hérouxville, Lac-aux-Sables, Notre-Dame-de-Montauban, Saint-Adelphe, Sainte-Thècle, Saint-Séverin and Saint-Tite from Laviolette. It is named after the founder of Quebec City in 1608, Samuel de Champlain. Joseph-Arthur Labissonnière was a politician in Quebec, Canada and an official opposition Member of the Legislative Assembly of Quebec (MLA). Early life He was born on December 25, 1875, in Batiscan, Mauricie and was a farmer. William Frederick Vilas (15 July 1853 – 15 August 1930) was a Canadian politician. Born in East Farnham, Canada East, Vilas was mayor of Cowansville, Quebec from 1911 to 1922. John Hall Kelly
John Hall Kelly (September 1, 1879 – March 10, 1941) was a Canadian lawyer, politician and diplomat. Born in Saint-Godefroy, Gaspé Peninsula, Quebec, Kelly was educated at the Collège de Lévis, the University of St. Joseph's College, and at the Université Laval. He was called to the Bar of Quebec in 1903. He was created a King's Counsel in 1914. He practiced law in New Carlisle, Quebec specializing in corporate law. He was the president of the New Richmond Mining Co., North American Mining Co., Gaspé Mines, Cascapédia Mines and Paspébiac Mines. In 1905 he was the founder and president of the Bonaventure and Gaspé Telephone Company. He was elected to the Legislative Assembly of Quebec for the riding of Bonaventure in 1904.
