The Members of 13th Legislative Assembly of Maharashtra were elected during the 2014 Maharashtra Legislative Assembly election, with results announced on 19 October 2014. The Bharatiya Janata Party was elected as the largest party in the election with 122 seats out of 288 seats, 76 more than their previous 46 seats. The Shiv Sena was elected as the second largest party in the election with 63 seats out of 288 seats, 18 more than their previous 45 seats. 2014 Maharashtra Legislative Assembly Election
The Indian state of Maharashtra has a bicameral legislature, comprising two houses. The lower house, known as the Legislative Assembly ("Vidhan Sabha" in Marathi), is directly elected by the people and is the more powerful of the two houses. The upper house, known as the Legislative Council ("Vidhan Parishad" in Marathi) is elected indirectly by several specially designated electorates. The Legislative Assembly has a tenure of five years, at most, and it may be dissolved before time in case the government falls for lack of majority, and nobody else can cobble up a majority. Ganpatrao Deshmukh (10 August 1927 – 30 July 2021) was an Indian politician. He was in office for 54 years. He was called "Abasaheb" by the people with love and affection. He was also called "Bhai" by peasants and workers. Biography He was the leader of Peasants and Workers Party of India (PWP). He is the longest serving member of the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly have been elected 11 times, during the last 54 years, from Sangola in Solapur district. United Progressive Alliance (UPA) is a centre-left political alliance of predominantly left-leaning political parties in India. Shiv Sena ( IAST: ''Śiva Sēnā'') () was a right-wing to far-right Marathi regionalist and Hindu ultranationalist political party in India founded in 1966 by cartoonist Bal Thackeray. Originally emerging from nativist movements in Bombay (present-day Mumbai), the party agitated for preferential treatment for the Marathi people over migrants from other parts of India.
