Prince Edward Island
Prince Edward Island (PEI; ) is one of the thirteen Provinces and territories of Canada, provinces and territories of Canada. It is the smallest province in terms of land area and population, but the most densely populated. The island has several nicknames: "Garden of the Gulf", "Birthplace of Confederation" and "Cradle of Confederation". Its capital and largest city is Charlottetown. Kings County, Prince Edward Island
Kings County (2021 population 18,327) is located in eastern Prince Edward Island, Canada. It is the province's smallest, most rural and least-populated county. Kings County is also least dependent upon the agriculture industry compared with the other two counties, while being more heavily dependent on the fishery and forest industry. Comparatively large parts of the county are still forested and it hosts the province's largest sawmill. The only heavy industry, aside from forestry and industrial farming, is a small shipyard, although secondary manufacturing has been established in recent years. The county was named by Capt. John Brecken
John Brecken (February 23, 1800 – November 2, 1847) was a businessman and political figure in Prince Edward Island. He represented Charlottetown in the Legislative Assembly of Prince Edward Island from 1829 to 1834. He was born in Charlottetown, the son of Ralph Brecken, who had served as speaker in the provincial assembly, and Matilda Robinson, the daughter of Joseph Robinson. When he was thirteen, his father died and his mother took over the operation of the business. Brecken served as deputy treasurer for the colony and resident director for the Bank of British North America. In 1826, he married Margaret Leah de St Croix. He was named to the colony's Council in 1834, serving until his death in Charlottetown in 1847. His son Frederick de St Croix Brecken served in the provincial assembly and the Canadian House of Commons. Charles Binns (c. 1786 – April 28, 1847) was a lawyer, businessman and political figure in Prince Edward Island. Charlottetown is the capital and largest city of the Canadian province of Prince Edward Island, and the county seat of Queens County. Named after Queen Charlotte, Charlottetown was an unincorporated town until it was incorporated as a city in 1855. John Small MacDonald
John Small MacDonald (ca. 1791 – January 20, 1849) was a businessman and politician on Prince Edward Island. He was born in West River, Saint John's Island (later Prince Edward Island), the son of John Macdonald and Margaret (Peggy) Macdonald, the sister of Captain John MacDonald of Glenaladale. Macdonald married Isabella McDonald. In 1830, he was elected to represent Queens County in the Legislative Assembly. As a landowner, he opposed giving ownership of the land to the tenant farmers; however, he supported moderate reforms. Macdonald was reelected to the assembly until he retired from politics in 1846. He also served as a captain in the militia and a justice of the peace.
