Mother Superior (band)
Mother Superior were an American hard rock band based in Los Angeles, California, active 1993–2011. A power trio, they originally consisted of guitarist/vocalist Jim Wilson, bassist Marcus Blake and drummer Jason Mackenroth. Mother Superior released eight studio albums. History Wilson, Blake and Mackenroth backed vocalist Henry Rollins for three studio albums as the final lineup of Rollins Band from 1997 to 2003. In 2005, Mackenroth quit and was replaced by Matt Tecu. Mackenroth died on January 3, 2016, in Nevada from prostate cancer complications. Wayne Kramer (born Wayne Kambes; April 30, 1948) is an American guitarist, singer, songwriter, producer and film and television composer. Kramer came to prominence as a teenager in 1967 as a co-founder of the Detroit rock group MC5, a group known for their powerful live performances and radical left-wing political stand. The MC5 broke up amid government harassment, poverty and drug abuse. For Kramer, this led to several fallow years as he battled drug addiction before returning to an active recording and performing schedule in the 1990s. ''Rolling Stone'' ranked him among the "100 Greatest Guitarists of all Time". ''Moanin'' (originally titled ''Art Blakey and the Jazz Messengers'') is a jazz album by Art Blakey and the Jazz Messengers recorded in 1958 for the Blue Note label and released in 1959. Background This was Blakey's first album for Blue Note in several years, after a period of recording for a number of different labels, and marked both a homecoming and a fresh start. Originally the LP was self-titled, but the instant popularity of the bluesy opening track "Moanin'" (by pianist Bobby Timmons) led to its becoming known by that title. Music The rest of the originals are by saxophonist Benny Golson (who was not with the Jazz Messengers for long, this being the only American album on which he is featured). James Wilson is an American musician and singer, best known as a guitarist in the rock bands Mother Superior and Rollins Band. He is known for his soulful vocals and powerful blues rock guitar work. He also plays guitar and bass with Daniel Lanois. Wilson hails from Delaware, but currently resides in Los Angeles. Biography Wilson was born in Delaware. A founding member of the blues rock trio Mother Superior who as a band have worked with Lemmy, Queens of the Stone Age, Alice Cooper, Meat Loaf, Emmylou Harris, Anthrax, Wayne Kramer, George Clinton, and Iggy Pop. They were also approached by Henry Rollins in 1999 and asked to become 3/4 of the Rollins Band, an offer they accepted. Mother Superior released their eighth studio album ''Three Headed Dog'' in 2007.
