12th Saskatchewan Legislature
The 12th Legislative Assembly of Saskatchewan was elected in the Saskatchewan general election held in June 1952. The assembly sat from February 12, 1953, to May 8, 1956. The Co-operative Commonwealth Federation (CCF) led by Tommy Douglas formed the government. The Liberal Party led by Walter Adam Tucker formed the official opposition. After Tucker returned to federal politics in 1953, Asmundur Loptson served as interim Liberal Party leader. 1952 Saskatchewan General Election
The 1952 Saskatchewan general election was held on June 11, 1952, to elect members of the Legislative Assembly of Saskatchewan. The Co-operative Commonwealth Federation government of Premier Tommy Douglas was re-elected for a third term with an increased majority. The Liberal Party of Walter Tucker increased its share of the popular vote to almost 40%, but lost 9 of the seats it had held in the previous legislature. The Social Credit and Progressive Conservative parties continued to lose support. This election was held using a mixture of single-member districts and multi-member districts. Regina elected three members. Saskatoon and Moose Jaw City elected two. Each voter could cast as many votes as there were seats to fill in the district (Block Voting). Rosscoe Arnold McCarthy
Rosscoe Arnold McCarthy (January 8, 1891 – 1970) was a political figure in Saskatchewan. He represented Cannington from 1949 to 1964 in the Legislative Assembly of Saskatchewan as a Liberal. He was born in Hagersville, Ontario, the son of John McCarthy, and was educated there and in Francis, Saskatchewan. In 1921, McCarthy married Annie Ruth McDonnell. He served on the council for the rural municipality of Golden West, also serving as reeve. McCarthy lived in Corning. Humboldt (provincial Electoral District)
Humboldt was a provincial electoral district for the Legislative Assembly of Saskatchewan, Canada. Located in central Saskatchewan, this constituency was one of 25 created for the 1st Saskatchewan general election in 1905. Incorporated as a city in 2000, Humboldt (pop. 4,998) was the largest centre in the riding. Robert Alexander Walker
Robert Alexander Walker, (March 6, 1916 – March 28, 1989) was a Canadian lawyer who served in the Legislative Assembly of Saskatchewan from 1948 to 1967. Walker was born in Regina, Saskatchewan, the son of G.H. Walker and Jean McMillan, and was educated in Mazenod and at the University of Saskatchewan. In 1941, he married Rosa Rebecca Nagel. First elected to the Saskatchewan assembly as the CCF member for Hanley constituency in the 1948 general election, he went on to re-election in 1952, and 1956. In 1956 he joined the cabinet of Premier Tommy Douglas as Attorney General and Provincial Secretary. He continued in those roles following his re-election in 1960. After Douglas left to lead the federal NDP in 1961, Woodrow Lloyd became premier and the first universal medical care plan in Canada was introduced after the doctor's strike. This district was created before the 2nd Saskatchewan general election in 1908. Elrose was a provincial electoral district for the Legislative Assembly of the province of Saskatchewan, Canada. Located in southwestern Saskatchewan, this constituency was centred on the town of Elrose. Isidore Charles Nollet
Isidore Charles "Toby" Nollet (November 18, 1898 – April 29, 1988) was an American-born rancher and political figure in Saskatchewan. He represented Cut Knife from 1944 to 1964 and Cut Knife-Lloydminster from 1964 to 1967 in the Legislative Assembly of Saskatchewan as a Co-operative Commonwealth Federation (CCF) member. Biography He was born in Sentinel Butte, North Dakota and was educated at Saint Benedict's Academy and Saint Thomas Military College in Minnesota. Nollet served overseas with the American Expeditionary Force during World War I. After the war, with his father, he moved to Freemont, Saskatchewan, where he established a ranch that raised Aberdeen Angus cattle. Nollet served as reeve of the rural municipality of Hillsdale. Bill Berezowsky
William John Berezowsky (January 6, 1904 – January 17, 1974) was an Austro-Hungarian Empire-born businessman, farmer, civil servant and political figure in Saskatchewan. He represented Cumberland from 1952 to 1967 and Prince Albert East-Cumberland from 1967 to 1971 in the Legislative Assembly of Saskatchewan as a Co-operative Commonwealth Federation (CCF) and then New Democratic Party (NDP) member. He came to western Canada with his family in 1908 and was educated in Winnipeg, Prince Albert, Saskatchewan and Saskatoon. Berezowsky worked for the railway, taught school, worked on the family farm and then worked as a prospector. He served in the Royal Canadian Air Force during World War II.
