120th Ohio General Assembly
The One Hundred Twentieth Ohio General Assembly was the legislative body of the state of Ohio in 1993 and 1994. In this General Assembly, the Ohio Senate was controlled by the Republicans and the Ohio House of Representatives was controlled by the Democrats. In the Senate, there were 19 Republicans and 14 Democrats. In the House, there were 52 Democrats and 47 Republicans. It was the first General Assembly to use redistricted legislative districts from the 1990 United States Census. Ohio Senate
The Ohio Senate is the upper house of the Ohio General Assembly. The State Senate, which meets in the Ohio Statehouse in Columbus, first convened in 1803. Senators are elected for four year terms, staggered every two years such that half of the seats are contested at each election. Even numbered seats and odd numbered seats are contested in separate election years. The president of the Ohio Senate presides over the body when in session, and is currently Matt Huffman. Currently, the Senate consists of 25 Republicans and eight Democrats, with the Republicans controlling three more seats than the 22 required for a supermajority vote. Senators are limited to two consecutive terms. Harry Cooper Snyder Jr. (July 10, 1928 – October 14, 2019) was an American politician. He was affiliated with the Republican Party, and served on the Ohio Senate from 1979 to 1996 as a legislator from the 14th district. Early life Snyder was born in Blanchester, Ohio. He was the owner of Snyder's Hardware. Snyder served on the Clinton County Board of Education. Robert Lee Rayford (February 3, 1953 – May 15 1969), sometimes identified as Robert R. due to his age, was an American teenager from Missouri who has been suggested to represent the earliest confirmed case of HIV/AIDS in North America based on evidence which was published in 1988 in which the authors claimed that medical evidence indicated that he was "infected with a virus closely related or identical to human immunodeficiency virus type 1." Rayford died of pneumonia, but his other symptoms baffled the doctors who treated him. A study published in 1988 reported the detection of antibodies against HIV. Results of testing for HIV genetic material were reported once at a scientific conference in Australia in 1999; however, the data has never been published in a peer-reviewed medical or scientific journal. Barry Levey
Barry Levey (August 7, 1930 – February 5, 2004) was a Republican politician and a former member of the Ohio General Assembly. Levey initially was elected to the Ohio House of Representatives in 1962, representing the entirety of Butler County as an at-large district. He went on to win reelection in 1964. By 1966, the Voting Rights Act of 1965 had required state legislatures to have specific districts, and Levey won a seat to represent the new 39th House District. He was reelected to the seat in 1968. In 1970, Levey opted to not run for reelection to another term. In 1970, Levey, along with Buz Lukens, was mentioned as a potential successor to Walter E. Powell in the Ohio Senate. However, the seat ultimately went to Lukens. He went on to serve as a trustee for Miami University, and work in private practice as an attorney. Betty Montgomery (born April 3, 1948) is an American politician from the state of Ohio. A Republican, she formerly served as Ohio State Auditor and is the first woman Ohio Attorney General. Education Montgomery earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Bowling Green State University and Juris Doctor from the University of Toledo College of Law. Career County Prosecutor Montgomery was elected Wood County Prosecutor in 1980.
