10th Infantry Division (Belgium)
The 10th Infantry Division (Dutch: ) was an Infantry Division of the Belgian Army that fought against the German Armed Forces in the Battle of Belgium. World War II When mobilization was announced, the 10th Infantry Division, was part of the First Reserve with some of its regiments already active in the army. The Division was under the command of VI Corp, and because of the need to forces at the K-W line, the division was deployed to sector Leuven. At the start of the German invasion, the 10th Infantry Division began fully operating in its sector. The Division is the only Infantry unit occupying the K-W line. On May 11, the British expeditionary Army had arrived and came to take positions up the K-W line. Disagreement was brewing among the Allied command as the K-W line was manned by both the Belgians, the French, and British forces. The 5th Infantry Division (Dutch: ''5de Infanterie Divisie'') was an infantry division of the Belgian Army that fought against the German Armed Forces in the Battle of Belgium. History World War I At the start of World War I, the 5th Infantry Division was classified as ‘5th Division’, commanded by Lieutenant-General Ruwet. The headquarters were located at Mons and the division was composed of the 1st, 16th, and 17th Mixed Brigades. The 11th Infantry Division (Dutch:''11de Infanterie Divisie'') was an Infantry Division of the Belgian Army that fought in the Battle of Belgium against the German Armed Forces. Jules Pire
Jules Joseph Pire (1878-1953) was a Belgian career soldier and a leading figure in the Belgian Resistance during World War II. In this capacity, he led the Secret Army, the largest faction of the resistance, from January 1944. Career Pire was born in Hannut, Liège Province, Belgium on 29 March 1878. He enlisted in the Belgian Army in 1897, initially as a non-commissioned officer and subsequently as an officer. He was admitted to the Ecole de Guerre and served in the staff of the 3rd Brigade during the German invasion of Belgium in World War I. Transferring to the infantry, Pire rose rapidly through the ranks during the war and in its aftermath. The culmination of his career was as commander of the newly created Corps of Chasseurs Ardennais from 1936 to 1939. He retired in April 1939 as a lieutenant general, before being recalled in September when the outbreak of World War II led to the mobilisation of the Belgian Army, despite its neutral status. Izegem (; vls, Yzegem) is a city and municipality located in the Belgian province of West Flanders. The municipality comprises the city of Izegem proper and the towns of Emelgem and Kachtem. Emelgem was added to Izegem in 1965, Kachtem in 1977. Izegem itself lies on the southern banks of the Mandel, Emelgem and Kachtem on the north. 2nd Infantry Division (United Kingdom)
The 2nd Infantry Division was an infantry division of the British Army that was formed and disestablished numerous times between 1809 and 2012. It was raised by Lieutenant-General Arthur Wellesley for service in the Peninsular War (part of the Coalition Wars of the Napoleonic Wars) as the 2nd Division. It was disestablished in 1814, but re-formed the following year for service in the War of the Seventh Coalition. The formation fought at the Battle of Waterloo and played an important role in defeating the final French attack of the day. It then marched into France and became part of the Army of Occupation, and was the only British force allowed to march through Paris. In December 1818, the division was disbanded once again. During the mid- to late-19th century, several formations bearing the name 2nd Division were formed.
