104th Guards Airborne Regiment
The 104th Guards Air Assault Regiment is a formation of the Russian Airborne Troops. It is part of the 76th Guards Air Assault Division. History The regiment was formed on 24 September 1948 in Valga, Karelian ASSR as the 104th Guards Air-Landing Regiment of the 21st Guards Airborne Division. In 1955, its garrison was moved to Cherekha, Pskov Oblast. It was awarded the Order of the Red Banner in 1978. In 2014, the regiment was involved in the War in Donbass. In 2022, the regiment participated in the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine. The regiment has suffered very heavy casualties including at least four battalion commanders. On 7 June 2022, Ukraine's 80th Air Assault Brigade claimed that they had destroyed the regiment in a battle on a highway in the Donbas. Bucha Massacre
The Bucha massacre ( uk, Бучанська різанина, Buchanska rizanyna) was the mass murder of Ukrainian civilians by Russian Armed Forces during the fight for and occupation of the Ukrainian city of Bucha amid the Russian invasion of Ukraine. Photographic and video evidence of the massacre emerged on 1 April 2022 after Russian forces withdrew from the city. According to local authorities, 458 bodies have been recovered from the town, including 9 children under the age of 18; among the victims, 419 people were killed by weapons and 39 appeared to have died of natural causes, possibly related to the occupation. 80th Air Assault Brigade (Ukraine)
The 80th Separate Air Assault Brigade ( uk, 80-та окрема десантно-штурмова бригада ; Military Unit Number A0284) is an airmobile formation of the Ukrainian Air Assault Forces. The brigade traces its history back to the 80th Airborne Regiment, formed in 1955 as part of the Soviet airborne's 7th Guards Airborne Division. Four years later, the regiment transferred to the 104th Guards Airborne Division. It participated in Operation Whirlwind in 1956 and Operation Danube in 1968. In 1979, the regiment was disbanded and used to form the 39th and 40th Separate Air Assault Brigades of the Soviet Army. The 21st Guards Airborne Division was an airborne division of the Soviet airborne from 1948 to 1955. It was based in Valga and was formed from a regiment of the 104th Guards Airborne Division.
