1. Damen-Basketball-Bundesliga
The Damen-Basketball-Bundesliga (DBBL) is the premier women's basketball championship in Germany. It was founded in 1947. DJK Agon 08 Düsseldorf and BTV 1846 Wuppertal are the most successful teams in the competition with twelve and eleven titles respectively, while TSV 1880 Wasserburg and Saarlouis Royals have dominated the competition in recent years. The leading teams from the DBBL enjoyed some success in FIBA Europe competitions in the 1980s and the 1990s, with Wuppertal winning the 1996 European Cup and Agon also reaching the competition's final in 1983 and 1986. The competition had been directly run by the German Basketball Federation (DBB) until 2001. Michael Heidelberger (April 29, 1888 – June 25, 1991) was an American immunologist, often regarded as the father of modern immunology. He and Oswald Avery showed that the polysaccharides of pneumococcus are antigens, enabling him to show that antibodies are proteins. He spent most his early career at Columbia University and comparable time in his later years on the faculty of New York University. In 1934 and 1936 he received the Guggenheim Fellowship. In 1967 he received the National Medal of Science, and then he earned the Lasker Award for basic medical research in 1953 and again in 1978. His papers are held at the National Library of Medicine in Bethesda, Maryland. The COVID-19 pandemic in Germany has resulted in confirmed cases of COVID-19 and deaths. On 27 January 2020, the first case in Germany was confirmed near Munich, Bavaria. By mid February, the arising cluster of cases had been fully contained. On 25 and 26 February, multiple cases related to the Italian outbreak were detected in Baden-Württemberg. A carnival event on 15 February in Heinsberg, North Rhine-Westphalia, was attended by a man identified as positive on 25 February; in the outbreak which subsequently developed from infected participants, authorities were mostly no longer able to trace the likely chains of infections. Wolfenbüttel Wildcats Baskets was a German women's basketball club from Wolfenbüttel playing in the Bundesliga. It made four appearances in the Ronchetti Cup in the 1990s, and in 2012 it won the national championship for the first time.
