1. FC Katowice
The 1. FC Katowice is a Polish football club from Katowice, Silesian Voivodeship and was founded in 2007 as a reactivation by the Silesian Autonomy Movement of the 1945 dissolved 1. FC Kattowitz. Men's football team The club was reactivated in 2007, and spent most of his time in the klasa B (eighth league level). Women's football team The women's section started in the 3rd tier, but has managed two promotions and won the promotion to the Ekstraliga Kobiet in 2010–11. As a result of the expansion of the Ekstraliga in 2010–11, a third-place finish in the 2nd division 2009-10 was enough to reach the promotion playoffs, which were won. The women's section played in the top level Ekstraliga Kobiet in 2010–11, 2011–12 and 2014–15. Before the 2015–16 season, the team withdrew from the second level league. Silesian Voivodeship, or Silesia Province ( pl, województwo śląskie ) is a voivodeship, or province, in southern Poland, centered on the historic region known as Upper Silesia ('), with Katowice serving as its capital. Silesian Autonomy Movement
The Silesian Autonomy Movement ( szl, Ruch Autōnōmije Ślōnska, pl, Ruch Autonomii Śląska, german: Bewegung für die Autonomie Schlesiens), abbreviated as RAŚ, is a movement officially declaring its support for the autonomy of Silesia as part of a unified Europe. The association was founded in January 1990 by Rudolf Kołodziejczyk and is based in the Polish part of Upper Silesia. RAŚ sees the Silesians as a "''separate nation''" rather than primarily as Poles, Germans or Czechs. On 17 October 2009, the Silesian Autonomy Movement signed a cooperation agreement with its German sister organisation, ''Initiative der Autonomie Schlesiens'' (IAS), based in Würzburg, and the UK-based ''Silesian Autonomy Movement''. Ekstraliga Kobiet
The Ekstraliga ( en, Extra League) is the top Polish league for women's association football teams. The league's first season was in 1979–80. Initially, it was called ''I liga polska kobiet''. The first title holder was Czarni Sosnowiec. In 2005, the league was renamed to ''Ekstraliga kobiet''. The winner of the league qualifies for the UEFA Women's Champions League. GKS Katowice (; GKS stands for , "Miners Sporting Club") is a Polish football club based in Katowice, Poland. The club currently plays in the I liga, after having won promotion in 2021. History In 1963 in Katowice a special organizational committee was called with the purpose of uniting all the clubs and sporting organizations of the city into one large club which would encompass many disciplines.
