Farhan Saleh (writer)
Farhan Osman Saleh (Arabic: فرحان صالح) is a writer, researcher and militant from Lebanon. He was born in 1947, in the town of Kfarchouba in southern Lebanon. He is known for politically supporting Arab nations involved in the Israel-Palestinian conflict. Saleh has published several books on politics, social, history and culture, as well as publishing writing and research in Lebanese and Arab newspapers and magazines. He has also contributed to the establishment of a house for the dissemination of enlightening and modernist thought, a cultural magazine, and a seminar for cultural dialogue with a group of thinkers and intellectuals in Lebanon and the Arab world. Salih (; ar, صَالِحٌ, Ṣāliḥ, lit=Pious), also spelled Saleh (), is an Arab prophet mentioned in the Quran who prophesied to the tribe of Thamud in ancient Arabia, before the lifetime of Muhammad. The story of Salih is linked to the story of the She-Camel of God, which was the gift given by God to the people of Thamud when they desired a miracle to confirm that Salih was truly a prophet. Historical context The Thamud were a tribal confederation in the northwestern region of the Arabian Peninsula, mentioned in Assyrian sources in the time of Sargon II. Ṣāliḥ ibn ʿAlī ibn ʿAbd Allāh ibn al-ʿAbbās () (711–769) was a member of the Banu Abbas who served as general and governor in Syria and Egypt. Life Salih and his brother Abd Allah were among the van of the Abbasid forces which overthrew the Umayyads in 750.
