Žika Mitrović
Živorad "Žika" Mitrović ( sr-Cyrl, Жика Митровић; 3 September 1921 – 29 January 2005) was a Serbian and SFR Yugoslavia, Yugoslav film director and screenwriter. He started his career as a comics artist. Mitrovic directed 20 feature films between 1955 and 1986. His 1974 film ''The Republic of Užice'' was entered into the 9th Moscow International Film Festival where it won a Diploma. The Moscow International Film Festival (russian: Моско́вский междунаро́дный кинофестива́ль, translit. ''Moskóvskiy myezhdunaródniy kinofyestivál''; abbreviated as MIFF) is the film festival first held in Moscow in 1935 and became regular since 1959. From its inception to 1959 it was held every second year in July, alternating with the Karlovy Vary festival. The festival has been held annually since 1999. In reaction to the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine, the FIAPF (Fédération Internationale des Associations de Producteurs de Films, translated as the International Federation of Film Producers Associations) paused the accreditation of the festival until further notice. Big Golden Arena For Best Film
The Golden Arena awards were established in 1955 as the Yugoslav national film awards presented annually at the Pula Film Festival in Pula, Croatia, with the Big Golden Arena for Best Film its main prize. From 1955 to 1990 the awards were the Yugoslav cinema equivalent of the Academy Awards. The award is named after the Pula Arena, the 1st-century Roman amphitheatre in the coastal city of Pula, where film screenings preceding the awards ceremony traditionally take place. In 1991 the festival was cancelled due to the breakup of Yugoslavia, but then resumed in 1992 as the Croatian film awards festival, from then on excluding films and filmmakers from present-day Slovenia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, Serbia, and North Macedonia. ''March on the Drina'' is a 1964 Yugoslav war film co-written and directed by Žika Mitrović. The film was released by the Avala Film studio in Belgrade. The screenplay was written by Žika Mitrović and Arsen Diklić. The title is derived from the eponymous 1914 musical composition by Stanislav Binički. The film is based on a historical event, the Battle of Cer, which took place in 1914 during World War I. The film chronicles the experiences of a Serbian artillery battery of the Combined Division as it makes a forced march to the Cer Mountain in western Serbia to meet Austro-Hungarian troops who have invaded the country by crossing over the Drina River. The Battle of Cer was a landmark battle of World War I as the first Allied or Entente victory of the war over the Central Powers.
