Škoda Motorsport
Škoda Motorsport is the division of Czech car manufacturer Škoda Auto responsible for motorsport activities. The team had competed as a manufacturer in the World Rally Championship between 1999 and 2005 and Intercontinental Rally Challenge (before it merged with ERC in 2013). Now it competes in the European Rally Championship and WRC-2. Škoda Motorsport riders have won the 2012–2014 ERC series with the Škoda Fabia S2000, Škoda Motorsport was also the most successful manufacturer in IRC 2010–2012 and in WRC-2 2015–2018 with Škoda Fabia R5. European Rally Championship
The European Rally Championship (officially FIA European Rally Championship) is an rallying, automobile rally competition held annually on the European continent and organized by the Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA). The championship has been organized since 1953 and has competed in different European countries, alternating between rallies on asphalt and gravel. It was the first supranational rally championship that was organized in the world and therefore the oldest one. In 2012 it had 60 editions and in 2013 it was renewed with the merger with the Intercontinental Rally Challenge. Škoda Felicia Kit Car
Škoda Felicia Kit Car was the successor to successful racing version of the Škoda Felicia. Its engine was based on serial engine with improved suction and new exhaust and with different cylinders and bigger stroke. The only disadvantage was two valve technology, so Škoda Motorsport asked the FIA for change in regulations so they could improve their engines. They succeeded and were able to build more powerful engines. Škoda Felicia Kit Car was available in three versions - 1,3l (1994-95), 1,5l (1994-96) and 1,6l (1996-97), that produced at 7800 rpm (1,3l). In mid-1995 it was replaced by an engine at 7000 rpm (1,5l) and until 1996 its performance was increased to at 7500 rpm. At the end of 1996 it was replaced by an engine at 8000 rpm (1,6l). The Iron Curtain was the political boundary dividing Europe into two separate areas from the end of World War II in 1945 until the end of the Cold War in 1991. The term symbolizes the efforts by the Soviet Union (USSR) to block itself and its satellite states from open contact with the West, its allies and neutral states. Acropolis Rally
The Acropolis Rally of Greece ( el, Ράλλυ Ακρόπολις) is a rally competition that is part of the World Rally Championship (WRC). The rally is held on very dusty, rough, rocky and fast mountain roads in mainland Greece, usually during the Greek hot summer period. The rally is best known for being extremely tough on the competing cars and drivers. History The Acropolis Rally has been held since 1951 by the Greek Motorsports Organization Automobile and Touring Club of Greece (ELPA), making it one of the longest-standing competitions in world rallying. RAC Rally
Wales Rally GB was the most recent iteration of the United Kingdom's premier international motor rally, which ran under various names since the first event held in 1932. It was consistently a round of the FIA World Rally Championship (WRC) calendar from the inaugural 1973 season until the rally's final running in 2019, and was also frequently included in the British Rally Championship. The first rallies in the 1930s were simply known as Royal Automobile Club (RAC) Rallies and did not necessarily require leaving England. In 1951 the club organised the first annual RAC International Rally of Great Britain to tour the island, and until the 53rd event in 1997 this was still commonly known as the RAC Rally. John Haugland
John Didrik Haugland (born 23 September 1946 in Stavanger) is a Norwegian former rally driver. He competed in 27 world rally championship events, more often than not at the wheel of a Škoda. He had four Top 10 finishes in his career. Haugland debuted in his first rally in 1965, and had over 100 class wins primarily in the 1970s and 1980s. He worked for the Norwegian Škoda importer as a teenager and they helped him in his rally career. His first race as an official Škoda driver came in 1968. Haugland raced a few times for other, bigger teams, but preferred the camaraderie and open nature of the little Škoda team. Haugland also owned a Škoda dealership outside of Oslo. Haugland is educated as a car technician and has gained much experience and skill in developing racing cars. He currently works for a number of rally teams developing their cars as well as running a rally school for young drivers.
