Şule Yüksel Şenler
Şule Yüksel Şenler (29 May 1938 – 28 August 2019) (Born Yüksel Şenler) was a Turkish writer, journalist. She devoted herself throughout her life to improving the status of conservative women in Turkish society and became a leading role model in women's participation in the public sphere towards the end of the 1960s. She was the designer of so-called "Türban", instead of the traditional "Başörtüsü" that was common in Anatolia for centuries, which she had learned from an Armenian tailor. Şule Yüksel Şenler holds several firsts. She was the first journalist to wear a headscarf in Türkiye, the first convict to appear in court with a headscarf, and the first speaker with an Islamic identity to address audiences in public spaces such as seminar and conference halls outside of mosques. Kayseri
Kayseri () is a large List of cities in Turkey, city in Central Anatolia, Turkey, and the capital of Kayseri Province, Kayseri province. Historically known as Caesarea (Mazaca), Caesarea, it has been the historical capital of Cappadocia since ancient times. 1960 Turkish Coup D'état
The 1960 Turkish coup d'état (), also known as the 27 May Revolution ( or ''27 Mayıs Devrimi''), was the first coup d'état in the Republic of Turkey. It took place on 27 May 1960. The coup was staged by a group of 38 young Turkish military officers, acting outside the military chain of command. The officers were ''de facto'' led by Cemal Madanoğlu until the actual coup date. After a threat by Ragıp Gümüşpala that he would move to quell the coup unless it was led by someone with a higher military rank than himself, the officers brought in General Cemal Gürsel as their leader. The coup was carried out against the democratically elected government of the Democrat Party, and ultimately resulted in the execution of its prime minister, Adnan Menderes, alongside two of his ministers, Fatin Rüştü Zorlu and Hasan Polatkan. Cevdet Sunay
Ahmet Cevdet Sunay (10 February 1899 – 22 May 1982) was a Turkish politician and military officer who served as the fifth president of Turkey from 1966 to 1973. Early life and career Sunay was born in 1899 in the village of Ataköy near Çaykara in Trabzon Vilayet, Ottoman Empire. After attending elementary school and middle school in Erzurum and Edirne, he graduated from Kuleli Military High School in Istanbul. During World War I, he fought in 1917 at the Palestine front and became a prisoner of war of the British in Egypt in 1918. After his release, he fought first on the southern front, then on the western front during the Turkish War of Independence. Sunay completed his military education in 1927, and graduated from the staff college in 1930 as a staff officer.
