is a city located in northeastern Kagoshima Prefecture, Japan. It is near Miyakonojō, Miyazaki. As of April 2017, the city has an estimated population of 37,038 and a population density of 95 persons per km². This is down from the 2006 population data, which was an estimated population of 43,752 and a population density of 112 persons per km². The total area is 390.39 km².
