Ōpōtiki College
Ōpōtiki College is a state secondary school located in Ōpōtiki, in the Bay of Plenty, North Island, New Zealand. History The first secondary schooling available in Ōpōtiki was at the Opotiki District High School, which was established in 1922. The name was changed in 1953 when Opotiki College opened as a separate secondary school (on its present site). When Opotiki College came into being in 1953, a new crest was decided on.  At the top is a burning lamp.  Underneath is a cogged wheel and key.  The fern and the mere were added later. The first motto was in Latin – ; “as the mind is, so is the man”.  This was later changed to te reo Māori – ; meaning “The mind is the measure of the man”. A new logo has recently been developed that has at its centre the Koru. Ōpōtiki
Ōpōtiki (; from ''Ōpōtiki-Mai-Tawhiti'') is a small town in the eastern Bay of Plenty in the North Island of New Zealand. It houses the headquarters of the Ōpōtiki District Council and comes under the Bay of Plenty Regional Council. Geography The town of Ōpōtiki is situated exactly on latitude 38° South. The climate is temperate. Summer temperatures reach the mid-20s (Celsius, mid-70s Fahrenheit) on the coast and encourage a continuation of the beach culture of the Bay of Plenty. Winter days are often cloudless, the daytime temperature never drops below freezing but there may be a mild frost at night. Winter snow falls along the crest of the ranges, and on the higher peaks (over 1000 m) may remain for a few weeks. Rain occurs at any season. Bernard Freyberg
Lieutenant-General Bernard Cyril Freyberg, 1st Baron Freyberg, (21 March 1889 – 4 July 1963) was a British-born New Zealand soldier and Victoria Cross recipient, who served as the 7th Governor-General of New Zealand from 1946 to 1952. Freyberg served as an officer in the British Army during the First World War. He took part in the beach landings during the Gallipoli Campaign and was the youngest general in the British Army during the First World War, later serving on the Western Front, where he was decorated with the Victoria Cross and three Distinguished Service Orders, making him one of the most highly decorated British Empire soldiers of the First World War. Willie Walker (rugby Union)
William Charles Aroyn Walker (born 19 May 1978) is a former New Zealand rugby union footballer. He played for Gloucester and Worcester Warriors in the Guinness Premiership. He has also played for the New Zealand Maori. Walker is currently the head coach of the Blues Women in the Super Rugby Aupiki competition. Rugby career Walker debuted for North Harbour in 1997. Frank Shelford
Frank Nuki Ken Shelford (born 16 May 1955) is a former New Zealand rugby union player. A flanker, Shelford represented Bay of Plenty and Hawkes Bay at provincial level, and was a member of the New Zealand national side, the All Blacks, from 1981 to 1985. James Rolleston
James Rolleston (born 8 June 1997) is a New Zealand actor known for the films ''Boy'' and '' The Dark Horse''. Murray Ken Hudson
Murray Ken Hudson, (24 February 1938 – 13 February 1974) was a Sergeant with the Royal New Zealand Infantry Regiment who lost his life when trying to protect soldiers under his command at Waiouru Military Camp in New Zealand. Exia Edwards (née Shelford, born 12 November 1975) is a former New Zealand rugby union player, representing and Bay of Plenty.
