Ōita Prefectural Art Museum
The , also known informally as OpAm, is an art museum and community exhibition venue in Ōita Prefecture, Japan. The museum is located in the center of the prefectural capital Ōita-shi, a 15-minute walk north-west of Ōita Station. Current facilities The museum was opened in April 2015. The new museum building features modern exhibition spaces, artists studios, a café and museum shop. The building was designed by Pritzker Architecture Prize winning architect Shigeru Ban. At the ground level the building features fully retractable glass shutters opening the main internal exhibition space onto an adjacent public plaza. The building was the recipient of a RIBA International Award The RIBA International Award is the Royal Institute of British Architects' highest award. Ōita Prefecture
is a prefecture of Japan located on the island of Kyūshū. Ōita Prefecture has a population of 1,136,245 (1 June 2019) and has a geographic area of 6,340 km2 (2,448 sq mi). Ōita Prefecture borders Fukuoka Prefecture to the northwest, Kumamoto Prefecture to the southwest, and Miyazaki Prefecture to the south. Ōita Station
is a railway station located in Ōita, Ōita Prefecture, Japan, operated by Kyushu Railway Company (JR Kyushu). The station opened on November 1, 1911. It has since undergone renovation, reopening in 2012 — the 'main' area of the station is now the southern, rather than the northern, entrance. Pritzker Architecture Prize
The Pritzker Architecture Prize is an international architecture award presented annually "to honor a living architect or architects whose built work demonstrates a combination of those qualities of talent, vision and commitment, which has produced consistent and significant contributions to humanity and the built environment through the art of architecture.” Founded in 1979 by Jay Pritzker, Jay A. A prefectural museum is a museum that specializes in collections local to a prefecture of Japan. Prefectural museums emerged in postwar Japan, and since these institutions are of recent origin their collections tend not to contain older Japan arts, with primarily Meiji era, 20th-century, and contemporary art. Most prefectural museums feature collections of arts, culture, and history with a strong emphasis on their native prefecture, but can exhibit works and collections from outside of the prefecture alongside the native collections, usually contemporary art from cultural centers such as Tokyo and exotic art from outside Japan.
