Đakovo Stud
The Đakovo Stud ( hr, Ergela Đakovo) is a Croatian Lipizzan horse national breeding stud farm located in Đakovo, Osijek-Baranja County, eastern Slavonia. First mentioned in 1239 and 1244, it officially originated in 1506, as it was written that Bishop Mijo Mesarić „owned a stud farm of 90 Arab horses“ on his estate. In recent times, it has developed into an important breeding farm, which comprises today approximately 790 acres of land and breeds as many as 160 horses in the Town of Đakovo and its surroundings. History The stud has been founded by Bosnian- Syrmian bishops who held estates in Đakovo granted by Coloman, King of Halych and Herceg (Duke) of Slavonia in 1239. Dorothea Of Bulgaria
Dorothea of Bulgaria ( bg, Доротея, sh-Latn-Cyrl, Doroteja, Доротеја; died 1390), also called Doroslava (), was the first Queen of Bosnia. Daughter of the Bulgarian tsar Ivan Sratsimir, Dorothea was held hostage by King Louis I of Hungary, who married her off to Ban Tvrtko I of Bosnia in 1374. She became queen in 1377 and may have been the mother of King Tvrtko II. Captivity Dorothea was the daughter of Ivan Sratsimir, Tsar of Bulgaria. Her mother was Ivan Sratsimir's first cousin and second wife, Anna of Wallachia. Dorothea was captured along with her parents and sister in 1365 by the army of King Louis I of Hungary following his conquest of Ivan Sratsimir's capital city, Vidin. Alkars' Stud ( hr, Alkarska ergela) is a horse breeding farm founded in 2004 in Sinj, Split-Dalmatia County, Croatia. Its main purpose is breeding of high-quality horses for Sinjska alka equestrian competitions. It is situated at the Sinj hippodrome, where approximately forty horses have been housed, mostly of the English Thoroughbred and Croatian Warmblood breeds. Establishment and development The main initiator and founder of the stud is the „Alka Knights' Society“ ("Viteško Alkarsko društvo" - VAD) from Sinj, which, due to the specific situation caused by the gradual reduction of horse breeding on private peasant properties, decided to organize its own breeding programme. Međimurje Horse Stud ( hr, Ergela međimurskog konja) is a small stud farm comprising 20 acres in the northern part of Međimurje County, Croatia. It is located at the Žabnik village in the Sveti Martin na Muri municipality. Established in 2015, Međimurje Horse Stud is opened to help preserve and revitalize Međimurje horse, a Croatian medium-heavy horse breed of draught horse which is endangered today, with a remaining small population in its original area in Croatia, and a larger one on the north side of the Mura River in southwestern Hungary, as well as in eastern Slovenia. The Stud is situated in a local municipality pasture (called ''gmajna''), i. e. common land, close to marshes at Mura River. Lipik Stud
The Lipik Stud ( hr, Ergela Lipik) is a Croatian Lipizzan horse national breeding stud farm located in Lipik, Požega-Slavonia County. The Stud originated in 1843 as count Izidor Janković built large stables on his estate. Today it comprises approximately 106 acres in the western part of the Town of Lipik, with a total of 74 horses, 70 of which are Lipizzans. History Founded in 1843 by Count Izidor Janković, Lipik Stud had around twenty horses at the beginning. In 1906 a new owner, Stjepan Layer from Virovitica, possessed twenty Lipizzan, Nonius and Anglo-Arabian mares and three stallions. In 1936 the Stud was enlarged with approximately new 60 horses, whereas in 1954 this number increased to approximately 250. The horse breeding was suddenly interrupted in the late 1960s by the local authorities and it was only in the early 1980s that it began to recover. Josip Juraj Strossmayer, also Štrosmajer (; german: Joseph Georg Strossmayer; 4 February 1815 – 8 April 1905) was a Croatian politician, Roman Catholic Bishops in the Catholic Church, bishop, and benefactor (law), benefactor.
