Číhošť Miracle
The event commonly referred to as Číhošť miracle happened on 11 December 1949, during the third Sunday in Advent, in the Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary in the village of Číhošť, Havlíčkův Brod District, Czechoslovakia. The alleged miracle was used by History of Czechoslovakia (1948–1989), Communist authorities as a pretext for anti-religious repression. The priest Josef Toufar was tortured and died during the investigation of the event. Basic overview During a church service held on 11 December 1949 in the Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary in Číhošť, several witnesses noticed that a half-metre long iron Christian cross, cross standing on the main altar moved several times on its own. Klement Gottwald
Klement Gottwald (; 23 November 1896 – 14 March 1953) was a Czech communist politician, who was the leader of the Communist Party of Czechoslovakia from 1929 until his death in 1953 – titled as general secretary until 1945 and as chairman from 1945 to 1953. He was the first leader of Communist Czechoslovakia from 1948 to 1953. Following the collapse of democratic Czechoslovakia after the Munich Agreement, the right-wing leadership of the Czechoslovak Second Republic banned the Communist Party, forcing Gottwald to emigrate to the Soviet Union in November 1938. Valdice
Valdice (until 1950 Kartouzy-Valdice) is a municipality and village in Jičín District in the Hradec Králové Region of the Czech Republic. It has about 1,300 inhabitants. It is known for a former monastery, which is today a high-security prison. Etymology Valdice was named after the nearby deer park (from German ''Wald'', meaning "forest"). It was also called Kartouzy after the local monastery. Geography Valdice is located about northeast of Jičín and northwest of Hradec Králové. It lies in the Jičín Uplands. ''Deník'' is a regional daily newspaper in the Czech Republic. A postulator is the person who guides a cause for beatification or canonization through the judicial processes required by the Catholic Church. The qualifications, role and function of the postulator are spelled out in the ''Norms to be Observed in Inquiries made by Bishops in the Causes of Saints'', which has been in effect since 7 February 1983. A petitioner seeking the beatification may appoint as postulator anyone, cleric or not, who is an expert in theological, canonical and historical matters, and versed in the practice of the Congregation for the Causes of Saints, subject to the approval of the bishop. Tomáš Petráček (born 1972 in Hořice v Podkrkonoší) is a Czech public intellectual, Roman Catholic priest, and scholar. His work covers the intersection of church and social historians.
