Čierny Hron Railway
The Čierny Hron Railway (in Slovak: ''Čiernohronská železnica'' or ''ČHŽ'') is a narrow gauge railway in the Slovak Ore Mountains, built as a forest railway for logging operations. History Planning for the railway began in 1898 and building began in 1908. In 1909 regular wood transport on the railway started, between Čierny Balog and Hronec. The network was extended to transport wood from the forests and by the middle of the 20th century the railway had a total length of 131,97 km, the most extensive forestry railway network in Czechoslovakia. On 19 July 1927, passenger traffic was permitted on the railway between Čierny Balog and Hronec, which operated until 1962. The railway was closed in 1982, but it has been granted national heritage status since. During the following few years it was repaired by enthusiasts and re-opened in 1992 as a heritage railway for tourists. The line is now 17 km long: Chvatimech - Hronec - Čierny Balog - Vydrovo. Čierny Balog
Čierny Balog (until 1927 also Balog, or Čierny Hronec; hu, Feketebalog) is a municipality in Brezno District, in the Banská Bystrica Region of central Slovakia. History The village arose after 1882 (1888 mentioned as ''Feketebalog'') by a merge of 13 villages (e.g. Balog, Krám, Dobroč, Dolina). Until 1920, it belonged to Hungary, as part of Zólyom County. It played an important role during World War II, as one of the centers of the anti-Nazi Slovak National Uprising. MÁVAG
MÁVAG (''Magyar Királyi Államvasutak Gépgyára''; ''Hungarian Royal State Railroads' Machine Factory'') was the largest Hungarian rail vehicle producer. MÁVAG company was the second largest industrial enterprise after the Manfréd Weiss Steel and Metal Works in the Hungarian half of the Austro-Hungarian Monarchy. MÁVAG was the property of the Kingdom of Hungary. After World War II MÁVAG was nationalized, and "Királyi" ("Royal") was removed from its name. The company employed thousands of workers. Deutz AG is a German internal combustion engine manufacturer, based in Porz, Cologne, Germany. History The company was founded by Nicolaus Otto, the inventor of the four-stroke internal combustion engine, and his partner Eugen Langen on 31 March 1864, as N. A.
