Česká Ves (german: Böhmischdorf) is a municipality and village in Jeseník District in the Olomouc Region of the Czech Republic. It has about 2,300 inhabitants. Etymology The name literally means "Czech village". Geography Česká Ves is located north of Jeseník and is urbanistically fused with the town. It is located about north of Olomouc. The eastern part of the municipality lies in the Zlatohorská Highlands and the western part lies in the Golden Mountains. The highest point is the hill Studniční vrch at above sea level. The village is situated in the valley of the Bělá River. The municipality is partially located in the Jeseníky Protected Landscape Area. History The first written mention of Česká Ves is from 1416. Northern Moravia Witch Trials
Northern Moravia witch trials, also known as '' Boblig witch trials'' was a series of witch trials which occurred in the Jeseník and Šumperk area in the present-day Czech Republic, between 1622 and 1696. They are among the largest and most well known Czech witch trials. Background The Northern Moravian witch trials are considered to be part of the Catholic counter-reformation. The Czechs were unwilling to abandon their Protestant religion after Czech lands had been taken by Austria during the Thirty Years' War. There was also great opposition to the social oppression of farmers under the landlords. This caused rebellions, such as the one of 1659-1662 led by Kryštof Winter, Mikuláš Patzold and Jan Jaschke. Jesuit priest Arnold Engel was the first person who had pointed out to the alleged witch practices in North Moravia. Johann Schroth
Johann Schroth (February 11, 1798 in Böhmischdorf, Silesia, today Česká Ves, Czech Republic – March 26, 1856 in Lipová-lázně) was an Austrians, Austrian naturopath. Schroth was an early advocate of fasting and moist heat therapy. He was a Logistics, haulage contractor by trade, and had vast experience dealing with horses. At age 18, his knee was badly injured by a horse and he successfully treated the affliction using cold compresses. Initially, he met a monk who advised him to wash his stiff joint with wet cloths several times a day. But as Schroth became tired of the repetitious activity, he developed a method of "wearing" cold compresses for several hours before changing them. Ultimately, the stiffness went away.
