The Czechs ( cs, Češi, ; singular Czech, masculine: ''Čech'' , singular feminine: ''Češka'' ), or the Czech people (), are a West Slavic ethnic group and a nation native to the Czech Republic in Central Europe, who share a common ancestry, culture, history, and the Czech language. Ethnic Czechs were called Bohemians in English until the early 20th century, referring to the former name of their country, Bohemia, which in turn was adapted from the late Iron Age tribe of Celtic Boii. Olga Čechová
Olga Čechová (6 April 1925 – 24 November 2010) was a Czech printmaker. A native of Brno, Čechová studied at the School of Arts and Crafts in that city from 1941 until 1944. From 1946 until 1951 she was a student at the Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design in Prague, where she was a pupil of Karel Svolinský and . She was active mainly as an illustrator, and her work appeared in many magazines and books, both for children and for adults. The series was broadcast by the national public-service broadcaster, Czech Television. In mathematics, specifically algebraic topology, Čech cohomology is a cohomology theory based on the intersection properties of open covers of a topological space. Vladimír Čech
Vladimír Čech (6 July 1951 – 22 March 2013) was a Czech actor, presenter and former politician. Čech was born and died in Prague. He was the son of anchorwoman Heda Čechová (1928–2020) and actor Vladimír Čech, Sr. (1916–1990). In 1977, Vladimír Čech graduated from the Theatre Faculty of the Academy of Performing Arts acting field and then played in Petr Bezruč Theatre in Ostrava, the Silesian Theatre in Opava, Ostrava State Theatre, the Český Těšín Theatre, Oldřich Stibor State Theatre in Olomouc (today Moravian Theatre) and in the East Bohemia Theatre in Pardubice. Thomas Cech
Thomas Robert Cech (born December 8, 1947) is an American chemist who shared the 1989 Nobel Prize in Chemistry with Sidney Altman, for their discovery of the catalytic properties of RNA. Cech discovered that RNA could itself cut strands of RNA, suggesting that life might have started as RNA. He also studied telomeres, and his lab discovered an enzyme, TERT (telomerase reverse transcriptase), which is part of the process of restoring telomeres after they are shortened during cell division. As president of Howard Hughes Medical Institute, he promoted science education, and he teaches an undergraduate chemistry course at the University of Colorado. Svatopluk Čech (21 February 1846 in Ostředek near Benešov – 23 February 1908 in Prague) was a Czech writer, journalist and poet. Biography Čech studied at gymnasium (secondary school) in Prague, then studied law, and later worked in the journals Květy, Lumír and Světozor.
