The Þór Akureyri men's football team, commonly known as Þór Akureyri, is the men's football department of Þór Akureyri sport club, multi sports club, based in the town of Akureyri in Iceland. History On September 18, 2010, Þór won against Knattspyrnufélag Fjarðabyggðar, Fjarðabyggð to move into second place in the second division of Icelandic football, 1. deild karla (football), 1. deild karla. Going into the game, Þór had to win and they also needed Leiknir Reykjavík, Leiknir to lose in order to go into second place since Leiknir was 3 points clear of them. This was their last gasp to reach promotion to the top flight football of Iceland, Úrvalsdeild. Even though Þór already had a superior goal difference, they defeated Fjarðabyggðar 9–1 in a thrashing. Knattspyrnufélag Reykjavíkur (Reykjavík Football Club), often shortened to KR or KR Reykjavík, is an Icelandic football club based in the Vesturbær district of the capital, Reykjavík. Lárus Orri Sigurðsson (born 4 June 1973), known in English as ''Larus Sigurdsson'', is an Icelandic former professional footballer, who played most notably for Stoke City and West Bromwich Albion in England. Club career Sigurðsson was born in Akureyri and played with Þór Akureyri along with his father Sigurdur Larusson, who later became the manager. The 2011 Visa-Bikar was the 52nd season of the Icelandic national Association football, football cup. It began on 30 April 2011 and ended with the final in August 2011 at Laugardalsvöllur.
