Ünal Üstel (born 1955) is a Turkish Cypriot politician currently serving as the Prime Minister of Northern Cyprus since 12 May 2022. Biography Üstel was born in 1955 in Paphos, and graduated from Istanbul University's Faculty of Dentistry in 1983. after returning to Northern Cyprus, he was elected in to the Assembly of the Republic for Girne as a member of the National Unity Party, and became the chamber's vice president, a position he held between 2001 and 2002. he was re-elected in 2003, and later returned to the assembly in 2009, being re-elected again in 2013 before becoming the chamber's vice president for a second time between 4 September 2013 and 9 October 2015. Paphos
Paphos ( el, Πάφος ; tr, Baf) is a coastal city in southwest Cyprus and the capital of Paphos District. In classical antiquity, two locations were called Paphos: Old Paphos, today known as Kouklia, and New Paphos. The current city of Paphos lies on the Mediterranean coast, about west of Limassol (the biggest port on the island), both of which are connected by the A6 highway. The National Unity Party ( tr, Ulusal Birlik Partisi, UBP) is a national conservatism, national-conservative List of political parties in Northern Cyprus, political party in Northern Cyprus. Ali Pilli (born 1955) is a Turkish Cypriot doctor and politician. He is the minister of Health of the 41st government of Northern Cyprus. He is from Paphos. İrsen Küçük (1940 – 10 March 2019) was a Turkish Cypriot politician who was Prime Minister of Northern Cyprus from 2010 to 2013. He was the nephew of the Republic of Cyprus's first vice-president, Fazıl Küçük. Early life and education Küçük was born in Nicosia in 1940 and graduated from the Faculty of Agriculture of the Ankara University in 1966, and then started to work at the State Hydraulic Engineering Bureau of Turkey. He got a master's degree in 1969 in irrigations threads. Parliamentary elections were held in Northern Cyprus on 28 July 2013, a year earlier than necessary. 2009 Northern Cypriot Parliamentary Election
Parliamentary elections were held in Northern Cyprus on 19 April 2009, a year earlier than necessary. The early election was decided upon by the ruling Republican Turkish Party. Winning the largest portion of the vote, the National Unity Party won the election, and the party chairman, DerviÅŸ EroÄŸlu, became Prime Minister. 171,000 Cypriots were eligible to vote. It has been claimed that of these as many as 100,000 were originally Turkish immigrants. Results The National Unity Party (UBP) won the election with 44% of the vote. The Republican Turkish Party (CTP) received 29% of the vote. Analysis The UBP's strong anti-unification position means that the results are likely to halt UN efforts to reunify Cyprus.
