Östgöta Nation, Uppsala
Östgöta nation or ÖG, as it is called informally, is a student society and one of thirteen student nation, nations at Uppsala University. Though Östgöta nation had existed in various forms previously, the nation's constitution was drawn up on 8 November 1646 and that is now considered its official date of creation. The current nation building was completed in 1885 and renovated in 1996. The nation currently has about 2600 members, making it a mid-sized nation. Östgöta nation is, like all the other nations in Uppsala, run by students. Notable people who have been members of the nation include Tage Danielsson, and Jöns Jacob Berzelius. Axel Hägerström was Inspektor of the Östgöta nation from 1925 to his retirement in 1933. Olof August Danielsson
Olof August Danielsson (born 15 October 1852 in the District Hamari parish, Östergötland County; died 10 July 1933) was a Sweden, Swedish linguist and classical philologist. Olof August Danielsson was born to Daniel Danielsson, a shoemaker, and Anna Brita Olofsdotter. In 1870 Danielsson began his studies in Uppsala. In 1879 he was associate professor of Classical Languages at the university in Uppsala, and was professor of comparative linguistics (1883–1884) and Greek language and literature (1884–1891). He was appointed professor of classical languages at University of Gothenburg, although he never took up the appointment, becoming professor of Greek language and literature at Uppsala University instead. Danielsson was elected as a member of the Academy of Letters in 1901 and the Royal Academy of Sciences in 1905. Danielsson was unmarried. Carl Sundberg was an American football coach. He served as the head football coach at Carthage College in Carthage, Illinois Carthage is a city in and the county seat of Hancock County, Illinois, United States. Frithiof Holmgren
Alarik Frithiof Holmgren (October 22, 1831 – August 14, 1897) was a Swedish physician, physiologist and professor at Upsala University, most noted for his research of color blindness. He was a vocal opponent of vivisection, and particularly the use of curare to immobilize subjects so they appeared peaceful while enduring great pain. Biography Holmgren was born in Östergötland, Sweden, where his father Anders was rector for the Motala-Vinnerstad parish. One of twelve siblings he studied at Linköping before going to Uppsala in 1850. From 1852 he served as a medical practitioner including during the 1846–1860 cholera pandemic, cholera pandemic in Norrköping and Söderköping. He graduated as a Medical Doctor from Uppsala University in 1861. He went to Vienna and studied under Ernst Wilhelm von Brücke who sent him to work with Carl Ludwig at Leipzig. Gustaf Svanberg
Gustaf Svanberg (22 January 1802 – 21 November 1882) was a Swedish astronomer. He was a professor of astronomy at Uppsala University from 1842 to 1875, and prefect of the university's observatory between 1825 and 1878. During his tenure, Svanberg traveled to Germany to meet prominent astronomers of the time. After returning from the journey, he undertook efforts to improve the astronomical facilities at Uppsala. This included establishing geomagnetic research facilities to cooperate with Carl Friedrich Gauss, and building a new observatory in Uppsala, a project which was subject to political controversy at the time.
