Ong is a Hokkien romanization of several Chinese surnames: ('' Wáng'' in Hanyu Pinyin), (also ''Wāng''), (traditional) or ( simplified; '' Huáng''); and (Weng). Ong or Onge is also a surname of English origin, with earliest known records found in Western Suffolk taxation records from c. 1280 AD. Ong (or Онгь in Russian language-based records) is also an Estonian surname, possibly derived from ''õng'', meaning "fishing rod/hook". Ong has also been used to romanize the Taishanese pronunciation of (more commonly romanized as Deng or Teng), as in the case of Betty Ong. Hokkien Language
The Hokkien () variety of Chinese is a Southern Min language native to and originating from the Minnan region, where it is widely spoken in the south-eastern part of Fujian in southeastern mainland China. It is one of the national languages in Taiwan, and it is also widely spoken within the Chinese diaspora in Singapore, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines and other parts of Southeast Asia; and by other overseas Chinese beyond Asia and all over the world. The Hokkien 'dialects' are not all mutually intelligible, but they are held together by ethnolinguistic identity. Taiwanese Hokkien is, however, mutually intelligible with the 2 to 3 million speakers in Xiamen and Singapore. Daryl Neilsonn Ong (born March 24, 1987) is a Filipino singer and songwriter. He rose to fame after joining the singing competition ''The Voice of the Philippines''. When Ong sang his blind audition piece "Paano" (original by Gary Valenciano) for ''The Voice of the Philippines'' Season 2, he impressed the judges and the Filipino viewers. Daniel Ong Ming Yu (; born 27 December 1975) is a Singaporean businessman, radio DJ and television host. He is the co-founder of Twelve Cupcakes, a Singapore-based cupcake chain. Canny Ong
Ahmad Najib bin Aris (1976 – 23 September 2016) was a Malaysian convicted murderer who in 2003 raped and killed Canny Ong, a US-based Malaysian information technology (IT) analyst. The crime made headlines across Malaysia. He was sentenced to death in 2005 after being found guilty in a highly reported trial, and throughout the next 11 years, he made multiple failed appeals against his sentence and was finally executed on 23 September 2016, more than 13 years after murdering Ong. Chin Peng
Chin Peng (21 October 1924 – 16 September 2013), born Ong Boon Hua, was a Malayan communist politician, anti-fascist activist and long-time leader of the Malayan Communist Party (MCP) and the Malayan National Liberation Army (MNLA). During World War II, he fought as an anti-fascist guerrilla fighter in the Malayan Peoples' Anti-Japanese Army against the Japanese occupation of Malaya. A determined anti-colonialist, he led the party's guerrilla insurgency in the Malayan Emergency (19481960), fighting against British and Commonwealth forces in an attempt to establish an independent socialist state. After the MCP's defeat and subsequent Malayan independence, Chin waged a second campaign (19681989) from exile against the newly formed government of Malaysia in an attempt to replace its government with a socialist one. American Airlines Flight 11 was a domestic passenger flight that was hijacked by five al-Qaeda terrorists on September 11, 2001 as part of the September 11 attacks. Ong Beng Teong
Ong Beng Teong (Chinese: 王明忠; born 29 May 1962) is a former badminton player from Malaysia. Career Ong won the gold medal at the 1982 Commonwealth Games in the men's doubles together with Razif Sidek. In the 1988 Thomas Cup he represented Malaysia and reached with the team the final of the cup. In the final he played the men's doubles with Cheah Soon Kit and lost with him to the Chinese pair Chen Kang and Chen Hongyong 12-15 and 12–15. Ong Beng Hee (born 4 February 1980, in Penang, Malaysia) is a retired professional squash player and coach. Between 2000 and 2006, he won four consecutive Asian Championship titles.
