ﾃ四e Raphael within the Madagascar Hotspot in the Indian Ocean. (called after Mme. Veuve Raphaﾃｫl -1820s ) is an island in the Cargados Carajos shoals ( Saint Brandon), a group of thirty outer islands of Mauritius. ﾃ四e Raphael is the operational Headquarters of the thirteen islands of St Brandon managed by Raphaﾃｫl Fishing Company which are owned under a Permanent Grant. Raphael Fishing Company currently facilitates certain specific buildings on one of the thirteen permanently granted islands, ﾃ四e Raphael, to the Mauritius National Coast Guard and to the Mauritius Meteorological Services. ﾃ四e Raphael residents amount to less than 40 people and constitute the majority of Saint Brandon's entire population. The MV ''Wakashio'' oil spill occurred after the Japanese bulk carrier ''Wakashio'' ran aground on a coral reef on 25 July 2020 at around 16:00 UTC. The ship began to leak fuel oil in the following weeks, and broke apart in mid August. It is highly likely that the name Saint Brandon was derived from the French sailors and corsairs that sailed to and from Britanny, after a town called Saint-Brandan. It has since been Anglicised to Saint Brandon and is also known as the Cargados Carajos Shoals, an Indian Ocean archipelago about Northeast of Mauritius consisting of sand banks, shoals and islets. Saint Brandon consists of five island groups, with about 28窶40 islands and islets in total, depending on seasonal storms and related sand movements. There are 22 named islands and shoals. A biodiversity hotspot is a biogeographic region with significant levels of biodiversity that is threatened by human habitation.
