Étienne Pagny
Étienne Pagny (29 October 1829, Lyon - 28 December 1898, Lyon) was a French sculptor, known primarily for decorative work and Bust (sculpture), busts. Life and works He was born to Jacques Pagny, a manufacturer of Tulle, and his wife Élizabeth, née Courbon, from Thèze, Alpes-de-Haute-Provence, Thèze. He began his studies at La Martinière College, where he originally studied architecture before deciding to become a sculptor. In pursuit of that goal, he enrolled at the École nationale supérieure des beaux-arts de Lyon. He was there from 1847 to 1849. His teachers included and Joseph-Hugues Fabisch. Hôtel De Ville, Lyon
The Hôtel de Ville de Lyon is the city hall of the City of Lyon and one of the largest historic buildings in the city, located between the Place des Terreaux and the Place de la Comédie, in front of the Opera Nouvel. Built in the late 17th century, the building has been classified as a Monument historique since 12 July 1886. Musée Des Beaux-arts De Lyon
The Museum of Fine Arts of Lyon (french: Musée des Beaux-Arts de Lyon) is a municipal museum of fine arts in the French city of Lyon. Located near the Place des Terreaux, it is housed in a former Benedictine convent which was active during the 17th and 18th centuries. It was restored between 1988 and 1998, remaining open to visitors throughout this time despite the restoration works. Its collections range from ancient Egyptian antiquities to the Modern art period, making the museum one of the most important in Europe. It also hosts important exhibitions of art, for example the exhibitions of works by Georges Braque and Henri Laurens in the second half of 2005, and another on the work of Théodore Géricault from April to July 2006. Parc De La Tête D'or
The Parc de la Tête d'or (English: "Park of the Golden Head") is a large urban park in Lyon, France, with an area of approximately . Located in the northern part of the 6th arrondissement, it features the Jardin botanique de Lyon, as well as a lake on which boating takes place during the summer months. Due to the relatively small number of other parks in Lyon, it receives a huge number of visitors over summer; it is a frequent destination for joggers and cyclists. In the park's central part, there is a small zoo without charge, which includes giraffes, deer, reptiles, primates, along with other animals. Eugène Scribe
Augustin Eugène Scribe (; 24 December 179120 February 1861) was a French dramatist and librettist. He is known for writing "well-made plays" ("pièces bien faites"), a mainstay of popular theatre for over 100 years, and as the librettist of many of the most successful grand operas and opéras-comiques. Born to a middle-class Parisian family, Scribe was intended for a legal career, but was drawn to the theatre, and began writing plays while still in his teens. His early years as a playwright were unsuccessful, but from 1815 onwards he prospered. Writing, usually with one or more collaborators, he produced several hundred stage works. He wrote to entertain the public rather than educate it. Many of his plays were written in a formulaic manner which aimed at neatness of plot and focus on dramatic incident rather than naturalism, depth of characterisation or intellectual substance. The Théâtre des Célestins is a theatre building on Place des Célestins in Lyon, France. It was designed by Gaspard André, and inaugurated in 1877, then in 2005. Joseph Benoît Guichard (14 November 1806, Lyon - 31 May 1880, Lyon) was a French painter and art teacher who worked in a variety of styles. Biography His parents were the owners of a wallpaper shop. Around 1818, he began to study drawing at the Palais Saint-Pierre (now the Museum of Fine Arts of Lyon) with the intention of becoming a draftsman. Many of his classes were taught in a strict Academic style by Pierre Révoil and Fleury François Richard. His first publicly displayed work was a picture of his grandmother. This formal style did not suit him, however. In 1824, he and a friend from school, Paul Chenavard, left the Palais and took classes from the sculptor, Jean-François Legendre-Héral instead.
