Étienne Mimard
Étienne Mimard (1862 in Sens – 1944) was a French arms manufacturer who, with Pierre Blachon, another arms manufacturer, founded the Manufacture Française d'Armes et Cycles de Saint-Étienne, which became Manufrance in 1947. Some years after buying the Martinier-Collin company, Mimard and Blachon settled on the site in the Cours Fauriel, built by the architect Lamaizière. The list of their innovations is important: they created a large factory, a centre of technical innovation, a novel system of mail order sales (printing of the Manufrance catalogue reached a million copies), a print centre (''Le Chasseur français'' magazine) and made renowned rifles (Robust, Ideal, Simplex, etc.). Anecdotes According to legend, Mimard would have wanted to be buried standing up opposite his firm. Sens
Sens () is a Communes of France, commune in the Yonne Departments of France, department in Bourgogne-Franche-Comté in north-central France, 120 km from Paris. Sens is a Subprefectures in France, sub-prefecture and the second city of the department, the sixth in the region. Armourer
Historically, an armourer is a person who makes personal armour, especially plate armour. In modern terms, an armourer is a member of a military or police force who works in an armoury and maintains and repairs small arms and weapons systems, with some duties resembling those of a civilian gunsmith. There is increasing evidence that companies specializing in the manufacture of armoured vehicles or applique armour for application onto vehicles of all types (cars, boats, aircraft) are referring to themselves as armourers; such as the UK company OVIK Crossway - which describes its services as Armourers and Coach Builders. In some ways, this is a reversion back to the original meaning of the term insofar as these companies forge, adapt or integrate physical armour onto platforms in order to protect human life. Manufrance
Manufrance was the trade name of ''Manufacture Francaise d'Armes et Cycles de St.Etienne'' ("French Arms and Cycle Factory of St. Etienne"), a French mail order company which was situated in the manufacturing town of St. Etienne since 1888. Products The first French mail order company, it mainly specialised in shotguns (Robust, Falcor, Ideal, Simplex) and bicycles (Hirondelle). However, they covered other products, ranging from fishing rods to household items, such as wall clocks. Most of the products sold by Manufrance were made by third-party manufacturers, then labeled and retailed by Manufrance. Ownership It was bought by Tavitian Jacques in 1988. Users An unlicensed Manufrance LaSalle 12-gauge shotgun, with a Sawed-off shotgun, sawn-off barrel, was used by the perpetrator of the 2014 Sydney hostage crisis in Australia. ''Le Chasseur français'' ( French: ''The French Hunter'') is a monthly magazine on hunting and nature published in France. Launched in 1885 it is one of the earliest magazines in this category. History and profile ''Le Chasseur français'' was started in 1885. The founding company of the magazine was ManuFrance, which went bankrupt in the 1980s. The company was founded by Étienne Mimard and Pierre Blachon in St Etienne and had activities in various business fields. In 1990 Medianature, a joint company formed by Bayard SA and Emap, acquired the magazine. In 2001 Emap bought the shares of Bayard AS in Medianature, becoming the owner of the magazine. Mondadori is also owner of the magazine, which acquired shares of it in June 2001. In June 2006 the company became the whole owner of the magazine. Ideal type (german: Idealtypus), also known as pure type, is a typological term most closely associated with sociologist Max Weber (1864–1920). For Weber, the conduct of social science depends upon the construction of abstract, hypothetical concepts. The "ideal type" is therefore a subjective element in social theory and research, and one of the subjective elements distinguishing sociology from natural science. Meaning An ideal type is formed from characteristics and elements of the given phenomena, but it is not meant to correspond to all of the characteristics of any one particular case.
