The Çığlıkara Nature Reserve ( tr, Çığlıkara Tabiatı Koruma Alanı) is a forest of mostly Lebanon cedar (''Cedrus libani'') in Antalya Province, southern Turkey. ''Cedrus libani'', the cedar of Lebanon or Lebanese cedar (), is a species of tree in the genus cedrus, a part of the pine family, native to the mountains of the Eastern Mediterranean basin. Elmalı is a town and district in Antalya Province, the Mediterranean region of Turkey. It lies about inland, near the town of Korkuteli and west of the city of Antalya. In 2007, the population for the whole district was 36.213, of which 14,038 live in the town of Elmalı. Formerly known as ''Kabalı'' and ''Emelas''. Geography Elmalı is a small plateau at the head of a long upland valley in the ''Beydağları'' range of the western Taurus Mountains, surrounded by high peaks including the 2500m ''Elmalı Mountain''. Aside from the town of Elmalı, the district includes two other small towns (''Akçay'' and ''Yuva'') as well as villages. The area is watered by streams running off the mountains. Although close to the Mediterranean, Elmalı is high in the mountains and has an inland climate of cold winters and hot summers, (although still much cooler than the coast). Koca Katran
Koca Katran Lübnan sediri (literally: Big old cedar of Lebanon) is a monumental old cedar of Lebanon ('' Cedrus libani'') in Antalya Province, southern Turkey. It is a registered natural monument of the country. Koca Katran is located within Çığlıkara Nature Reserve, a cedar forest, in Elmalı district of Antalya Province. The tree is high and the circumference of its trunk is at diameter. The old tree was registered a natural monument in 1995. The age of the cedar was dated as 2000 years old when it was registered. Forest now covers just over a quarter of Turkey, but 4000 years ago most of the country was forested. The country is reforesting, which is important for the wildlife of Turkey. History Forest cover before the formation of the Republic in 1923 is not well known. The first big afforestation project was in 1939. Climate and forests Forest covers 23 million of Turkey's 78 million hectares, but 3 million hectares are unproductive (less than 10% crown cover). Almost all forest is state owned and managed by the General Directorate of Forestry of the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry. The constitution prohibits forests being transferred from state ownership; however, private afforestation permits allow the private sector to reforest state land.
