Çiftehan
Çiftehan is a resort village in Ulukışla District, Niğde Province, Turkey. Its population is 958 (2022). Before the 2013 reorganisation, it was a town (''belde''). Geography Çiftehan is in the Toros Mountains at an altitude of about , north of the main passage of the mountain system known as Cilician Gates ( tr, Gülek Boğazı). It is east of Ulukışla and south of Niğde. History The vicinity was the southern gate of the Roman Province, Cappadocia. A Roman settlement sprung up named Aquae Calidae (meaning 'hot waters' for the nearby thermal springs). The thermal baths around were famous during Roman Empire era and according to unproven claims Cleopatra VII of Ptolemaic Egypt also visited the baths. The spa pools constructed by the Seljuk Turks (11th century-13th century) still survive. But there were no permanent settlements. Niğde
Niğde (; grc, Νίγδη; Hittite: Nahita, Naxita) is a city and the capital of Niğde province in the Central Anatolia region of Turkey at an elevation of 1,299 m. In 2017 the city population was 141,010 people. The city is small with plenty of green space and gardens around the houses. Its people generally tend to be religious and conservative. Medieval monuments are scattered about the centre of the town, especially around the market place. The nearest airport is Nevşehir Kapadokya Airport (NAV) which is 90.6 km (50.6 miles) away. History Niğde is located near a number of ancient trade routes, particularly the road from Kayseri (ancient Caesarea Mazaca) to the Cilician Gates and thence to the Mediterranean coast.
