Ã…sa Larsson Blind
Åsa Larsson Blind (born 29 August 1980) is a Sweden, Swedish-Sámi people, Sámi politician who as of March 2021 serves as vice president of the Saami Council. Political life She grew up in a Sámi family that cares for reindeer. She has studied at the Umeå University, University of Umeå and holds a master's degree in human resource management. Larsson Blind joined the Saami Council in 2008 as a representative of (SSR, the National Union of the Swedish Sámi People). In 2011, she was elected vice president of the council and in February 2017 was elected president. Her term as president ended in February 2021 and she was again elected vice president. In her time with the Saami Council, Larsson Blind also served from 2011 to 2015, on the board of the Arctic Council Indigenous Peoples Secretariat. The Saami Council is a voluntary, non-governmental organization of the Sámi people made up of nine Sámi member organizations from Finland, Norway, Russia, and Sweden. Since the founding of the Nordic Saami Council in 1956, among the first indigenous peoples' organizations, the Saami Council has actively dealt with Sámi public policy tasks. In 1992, when Russian Sámi groups joined the council, "Nordic" was removed from the council's name. The secretary was previously sited in both Helsinki and Utsjoki, Finland, but is now in Karasjok (village), Kárášjohka, Norway. Reindeer Herders
Reindeer herding is when reindeer are herded by people in a limited area. Currently, reindeer are the only semi-domesticated animal which naturally belong to the North. Reindeer herding is conducted in nine countries: Norway, Finland, Sweden, Russia, Greenland, The United States (Alaska), Mongolia, China and Canada. A small herd is also maintained in Scotland's Cairngorms National Park. Reindeer herding is conducted by individuals within some kind of cooperation, in forms such as families, districts, Sámi and Yakut villages and sovkhozy (collective farms). A person who conducts reindeer herding is called a reindeer herder and approximately 100,000 people are engaged in reindeer herding today around the circumpolar North.
