Åraksbø
Åraksbø is a village in Bygland municipality in Agder county, Norway. The village is located on the eastern shore of the Åraksfjorden, about north of the village of Sandnes and about southeast of the village of Ose. The population (2001) of the Åraksbø area was 89. The lake Hovatn and its hydroelectric power plant are located about to the northeast, just north of the village of Litveit. Åraksfjorden is a lake in the municipality of Bygland in Agder county, Norway. The lake is part of the Otra drainage basin. The northern part of the lake is fed directly by the river Otra. The southern part of the lake goes through a narrow channel which leads into the Byglandsfjorden. The villages of Frøysnes and Skåmedal are located along the western side of the lake and on the eastern side are the villages of Sandnes and Åraksbø. The Norwegian National Road 9 runs along the eastern side of the lake. The name of the long lake was given because it is located near the village of Åraksbø. Sandnes Church (Aust-Agder)
Sandnes Church ( no, Sandnes kyrkje) is a parish church of the Church of Norway in Bygland Municipality in Agder county, Norway. It is located in the village of Åraksbø on the east side of the Åraksfjorden. It is one of the churches for the Bygland og Årdal parish which is part of the Otredal prosti (deanery) in the Diocese of Agder og Telemark. The white, wooden church was built in a octagonal design in 1844 by Anders Thorsen Syrtveit who used plans drawn up by the famous architect Hans Linstow. The church seats about 200 people. History The earliest existing historical records of the church date back to the year 1437, but the church was not new at that time. The church was originally built (probably in the 14th century) on the shore of the Byglandsfjorden in the village of Sandnes. The first church on the site was likely a stave church. Hovatn or Hovatnet is a lake in the municipality of Bygland in Agder county, Norway. It is part of the Otra river drainage basin. The lake is regulated and is used by the nearby Hovatn Hydroelectricity, hydroelectric power plant. The dam has an outlet into the Hovassåni river which empties into the Åraksfjorden near Åraksbø. Ose, Norway
Ose is a village in Bygland municipality in Agder county, Norway. The village is located along the river Otra, just north of the lake Åraksfjorden. The Norwegian National Road 9 runs through the village. Just across the river to the north lies the village of Austad, and about to the north along Highway 9 lies the village of Moi. The Reiårsfossen waterfall lies about to the south. The area just southeast of the waterfall is the site of Reiårsfossen Camping, which is also the location of the Ose Country Music festival.
