Ålhus is a small village in the municipality of Sunnfjord in Vestland county, Norway. It is located along the European route E39 highway on the northern side of the lake Jølstravatnet, in a largely agricultural area. Ålhus is located about west of the villages of Helgheim and Skei and about northeast of the villages of Vassenden and Langhaugane. Ålhus is the millennium site of Jølster, due to its historical significance. Audun Hugleiksson erected a stone castle called Audunborg here in the 13th century. Ã…lhus Church
Ålhus Church ( no, Ålhus kyrkje) is a parish church of the Church of Norway in Sunnfjord Municipality in Vestland county, Norway. It is located in the village of Ålhus on the northern shore of the lake Jølstravatnet. It is one of two churches for the Ålhus parish which is part of the Sunnfjord prosti (deanery) in the Diocese of Bjørgvin. The white, wooden church was built in a long church style in 1795 by the architect Gunder Gregoriussen Støfringshaug. The church seats about 168 people. History The earliest existing historical records of the church date back to the year 1322, but the church was not new at that time. The first church at Ålhus in Jølster was a wooden stave church that was likely built during the 12th century. Nikolai Astrup
Nikolai Astrup () (30 August 1880 – 21 January 1928) was a Norwegian modernist painter. Astrup was a distinctive, innovative artist noted principally for his intense use of color depicting the lush landscapes of Vestlandet featuring the traditional way of life in the region. Biography Nikolai Johannes Astrup was born in the village of Kalvåg on the island of Frøya in Norway. Astrup grew up in Ålhus in rural Jølster between the Sognefjord and the Nordfjord. He was the eldest son of eleven children born to Christian Astrup (1844–1919) who was a parish priest at Ålhus Church in Jølster. Astrup was the great-grandson of Nils Astrup (1778–1835), a member of the Norwegian Parliament. Astrup's father wanted him to become a priest and sent him to Trondheim Cathedral School from 1895-97. Audunborg
Audunborg (''Auduns borg'') was a castle and fortification built by Norwegian nobleman Audun Hugleiksson on his inherited estate near the village of Ålhus on the shores of the Jølstravatn in the municipality of Jølster in Vestland county, Norway. The site was located about north-east of the village of Vassenden. History The castle was built in stone sometime between 1276 to 1286, probably by English craftsmen working out of Bergen. The rectangular building was and is thought to have had three stories, a store room in the ground floor, living quarters on the next floor, and a feast hall in the top floor. It had large windows and arches. The building itself had water on three sides and was thus easy to defend. It is also thought that a moat or castle wall was part of the fortifications. Audun Hugleiksson

He was the king's right hand, both under King Magnus Lagabøte and King Eirik Magnusson. Biography Audun Hugleiksson grew up on the farm Hegranes on Ålhus in Jølster which lies in what was the area of Firdafylke, (east of Førde and north of the Sognefjord). His father Hugleik seems to have been a lower nobleman and a member of King Håkon Håkonsson's hird (1204–1263). His father had the byname Hestakorn because he fed his horses with grain, something the local people saw as extravagant and a waste of a good food source. Sunnfjord is a municipality in Vestland county, Norway. It is located in the traditional district of Sunnfjord. The administrative centre of the municipality is the town of Førde. Agriculture or farming is the practice of cultivating plants and livestock.
