Other villages in the municipality include Revsnes, Roan, Bessaker, Harsvika, and By. Åfjord is located on the northwestern side of the Fosen peninsula, northwest of the city of Trondheim. It is located between the municipalities of Ørland and Osen and to the west of Steinkjer, with Indre Fosen to the south. Å is a village in the municipality of Åfjord in Trøndelag county, Norway. The village is also called Årnes or Å i Åfjord or just Åfjord. It is the administrative center of the municipality. The village is located at the end of the Åfjorden, about west of the village of By, Norway, By. The lake Stordalsvatnet lies just east of the village. Sør-Trøndelag () was a county comprising the southern portion of the present-day Trøndelag county in Norway.
