Ã…boland
Åboland ( fi, Turunmaa) is a sub-region in the archipelago of the Southwest Finland region in south-western Finland. Åboland and Turunmaa are also informal names of the region, but in this context Särkisalo ( sv, Finby) is normally included and in the Finnish name Turunmaa also the northern Finnish-speaking part of the archipelago. Whether e.g. Kaarina should be included is unclear. Historically also the inland was included. The sub-region consists of the majority Finland-Swedish former municipalities of Dragsfjärd, Houtskär, Iniö, Kimito, Korpo, Nagu, Pargas, and Västanfjärd, all of which are located in the archipelago around the city of Turku ( sv, Åbo), in the Archipelago Sea. The sub-region has a population of 22,774 (2004), of which 63.6% are Swedish-speakers. Pargas ( fi, Parainen) is a town and municipality of Finland, in the Archipelago Sea, the biggest archipelago in the world by the number of islands, 50,000. Turku
Turku ( ; ; sv, Åbo, ) is a city and former capital on the southwest coast of Finland at the mouth of the Aura River, in the region of Finland Proper (''Varsinais-Suomi'') and the former Turku and Pori Province (''Turun ja Porin lääni''; 1634–1997). Västanfjärd is a former municipality of Finland. On January 1, 2009, it was consolidated with Dragsfjärd and Kimito to form the new municipality of Kimitoön. It is located in the province of Western Finland and is part of the Southwest Finland region. On 1 January 2009, it was consolidated with Houtskär, Korpo, Nagu and Pargas to form the new town of Väståboland, which name from the beginning of 2012 was changed to Pargas. Archipelago Sea
The Archipelago Sea ( fi, Saaristomeri, sv, Skärgårdshavet) is a part of the Baltic Sea between the Gulf of Bothnia, the Gulf of Finland and the Sea of Åland, within Finnish territorial waters. By some definitions it contains the largest archipelago in the world by the number of islands, although many of the islands are very small and tightly clustered. The larger islands are inhabited and connected by ferries and bridges. Åland, including the largest islands of the region, forms an autonomous region within Finland. Korpo
Korpo (; fi, Korppoo ) is an island located in the Turku archipelago. It is a former municipality of Finland. On 1 January 2009, it was consolidated with Houtskär, Iniö, Nagu and Pargas to form the new town of Väståboland. As of 1 January 2012 Väståboland was renamed Pargas (Parainen in Finnish), which is also the name of a town on one of the islands, which has proven somewhat confusing for tourists and visitors to the area. The climate in Korpo is somewhat different from the mainland's climate. It typically has cooler summers than the mainland, but the winters are also less harsh. Kimito (; fi, Kemiö ) is a former municipality of Finland. On January 1, 2009, it was consolidated with Dragsfjärd and Västanfjärd to form the new municipality of Kimitoön. Houtskär
Houtskär (; fi, Houtskari ) is an island group and former municipality of Finland. On 1 January 2009, it was consolidated with Iniö, Korpo, Nagu and Pargas to form the municipality of Pargas (briefly named Väståboland). Dragsfjärd is a former municipality of Finland. On 1 January 2009 it was consolidated with Kimito and Västanfjärd to form the new municipality of Kimitoön.
