Álvaro Pérez Intriago
Álvaro Pérez Intriago (August 10, 1936 – August 2, 2016) was an Ecuadorian politician. Perez served as the Mayor of Quito from 1978 to 1982. He also served as a deputy in the National Congress from 1984 to 1986 and again from 1996 to 2002. In 2002, Pérez became a candidate for Vice President of Ecuador as the running mate of presidential hopeful Xavier Neira Menéndez. Álvaro Pérez Intriago was born in Quito, Ecuador, on August 10, 1936. He became a lawyer before entering politics. Pérez served on the Quito city council from 1967 to 1970. He then became the Provincial Prefect of Pichincha Province, the head of the province, from 1970 to 1976. Pérez served as Mayor of Quito, the nation's capitol, from 1978 to 1982. National Congress (Ecuador)
The National Congress (Spanish: ''Congreso Nacional)'' was the unicameral legislative branch of the government of Ecuador prior to November 2007. Under the 1998 Constitution, Congress met in Quito and was made up of 100 deputies ''(diputados).'' Each of the country's 22 provinces returned a minimum of two deputies plus one additional seat for every 200,000 inhabitants. It was dissolved on 29 November 2007 by the Ecuadorian Constituent Assembly and replaced by the National Assembly of Ecuador under the 2008 Constitution. Its demise came when it was already weakened by the disfavorable perception of the Ecuadorian public opinion, which for decades saw it as a corrupt and incompetent entity, as well as a venue for violent disputes between its members and political intrigues, such as the removal of Presidents Abdalá Bucaram Ortiz in 1997 and Lucio Gutiérrez in 2005. Luis Alfredo Palacio González (born 22 January 1939) is an Ecuadorian cardiologist and former politician who served as President of Ecuador from 20 April 2005 to 15 January 2007. From 15 January 2003 to 20 April 2005, he served as vice president, after which he was appointed to the presidency when the Ecuadorian Congress removed President Lucio Gutiérrez from power following a week of growing unrest with his government. Biography Born in Guayaquil, Palacio is a physician by profession, specializing in cardiology. He studied in his home town and, later, at Cleveland, Ohio, doing residency at Case Western Reserve University, followed by a two-year cardiology fellowship at Barnes-Jewish Hospital and Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, Missouri, in the United States. Lucio Edwin Gutiérrez Borbúa (born 23 March 1957 in Quito) served as 43rd President of Ecuador from 15 January 2003 to 20 April 2005. Early life Lucio Gutierrez, in full Lucio Edwin Gutiérrez Borbua, (born 23 March 1957, Quito, Ecuador), Ecuadoran army colonel and politician who served as president of Ecuador (2003–05). Gutiérrez was raised in Tena, an Amazon basin town. He was the son of a traveling salesman and attended primary and secondary school in Tena before transferring at age 15 to a military college in Quito. Gutiérrez graduated from the Army Polytechnic School as a civil engineer after having won honor's for academic and athletic prowess. He later studied in Brazil and the United States. Social Christian Party (Ecuador)
The Social Christian Party ( es, Partido Social Cristiano; PSC) is a centre-right political party in Ecuador. The party was founded in 1951 under the name of Social Christian Movement (''Movimiento Social Cristiano'') by Camilo Ponce Enríquez, who was Ecuador's president from 1956 to 1960, and Sixto Durán Ballén. It was initially focused on Quito. Since the 1980s, however, the party's popularity is more present on the coastal areas, particularly around Ecuador's economic center and most populous city, Guayaquil, and in coastal provinces, such as Guayas, El Oro, Los Rios, and Manabi, which constitute about half of the country's population. However, as a sign of deep regional divide on politics, the party has little power in the Andean region.
