''¡Muy Divertido! (Very Entertaining!)'' is a studio album recorded in New York City by American guitarist and composer Marc Ribot with Los Cubanos Postizos. It was released on April 25, 2000 on Atlantic Records. Reception AllMusic awarded the album 3 stars and the review by Steve Huey states, "Regrouping his Latin backing band Los Cubanos Postizos, Marc Ribot offers a sequel to his 1998 Arsenio RodrÃguez tribute ''The Prosthetic Cubans'' in ''Muy Divertido!'' ("very entertaining"). While there are once again a few songs penned by RodrÃguez, there's also a greater variety of composers represented, including three Ribot originals... Overall, it's a worthy follow-up for anyone who enjoyed the first installment". Marc Ribot (; born May 21, 1954) is an American guitarist and composer. His work has touched on many styles, including no wave, free jazz, rock, and Cuban music. Ribot is also known for collaborating with other musicians, most notably Tom Waits, Elvis Costello, Vinicio Capossela and John Zorn. Biography Marc Ribot was born in Newark, New Jersey. "Obsesión" is a 1935 Spanish-language bolero song by Puerto Rican songwriter Pedro Flores. The song is one of Flores' best known has been recorded by many artists. Flores was resident in New York where his Cuarteto Flores, including Panchito Riset and Daniel Santos, made his boleros popular. Lyrics The lyrics of the song have been referenced many times in literature since the song's early success in the 1940s. Eszter Balint (born 7 July 1966) is a Hungarian-American singer, songwriter, violinist, and actress. Biography Eszter Balint was born in Budapest, Hungary, to Marianne Kollar and Stephan Balint. She was living with the avant-garde Squat Theatre troupe in New York City, founded by her father when she first met Jean-Michel Basquiat. They became involved while he was filming ''Downtown 81''. Steve Nieve ( "naïve"; born Stephen John Nason, 21 February 1958) is an English musician and composer. In a career spanning more than 40 years, Nieve has been a member of Elvis Costello's backing bands the Attractions, the Imposters and Madness. He has also experienced success as a prolific session musician, featured on a wide array of other artists' recordings. In 2003, he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a member of Elvis Costello and the Attractions. Early years Nieve was born in Bishop's Stortford, England, and attended the Royal College of Music, but dropped out in 1977 to join Costello's backing band the Attractions. Marcus Rojas (born February 23, 1963) is an American Tuba, tubist from New York City. Early life Rojas was born in New York City on February 23, 1963, and grew up in Red Hook, Brooklyn. His early influences included Eddie Palmieri, Willie Colón, and uncles who played percussion and trombone. He began on trombone at elementary school, then changed to tuba in junior high school. At age 15, Rojas began lessons with tubist Samuel Pilafian. He went on to attend the High School of Music & Art in New York, and studied further at the New England Conservatory of Music, New England Conservatory. Pedro Flores born (March 9, 1894 – July 14, 1979) was one of Puerto Rico's best known composers of ballads and boleros. Early Years Flores (birth name: Pedro Juan Flores Córdova) was one of twelve children born into a poor family in the town of Naguabo, Puerto Rico. Flores' father died when he was only nine years old, necessitating that he had to work from a young age. When Flores was sixteen years old, he took a special course at the University of Puerto Rico ( Universidad de Puerto Rico) and received his teachers’ certificate. Flores then taught for five years and worked for one year at a sugar mill om the island of Vieques. In 1918, he served in a clerical position in the United States Army. A volunteer staff publishes news, album reviews, articles, videos, and listings of concerts and other events having to do with jazz.
