"(I Wanna Give You) Devotion" is a song by English electronic group Nomad, released in 1990 (UK/Europe) and 1991 (US). It was the second single from their only album, ''Changing Cabins'', released later in 1991. It was a number-one hit in Greece and a top 5 hit in the UK, where it reached number two. In the US, it peaked at number-one on the ''Billboard'' Hot Dance Club Play chart in June 1991 and stayed there for one week. MTV Dance ranked the song number 32 in their list of "The 100 Biggest 90s Dance Anthems of All Time" in November 2011. Background and release The track was produced by Damon Rochefort, who also shares writing credits with fellow Nomad member Steve McCutcheon and rapper MC Mikee Freedom. It also quotes from the earlier club hit "Devotion" by Ten City. Nomad (band)
Nomad was a house music duo from the United Kingdom, who had several hits on the US Hot Dance Club Play chart, as well as successes on the UK Singles Chart. Group members were Damon Rochefort (Nomad is Damon spelled backwards, thus the group's name), Steve McCutcheon and Sharon D. Clarke. In 1991, they hit number 1 on the US Dance chart and number 2 in the UK with the song " (I Wanna Give You) Devotion", billed as Nomad featuring MC Mikee Freedom. Their follow-up single, " Just a Groove", reached number 16 on the UK Singles Chart. Another single was "Something Special", also from the album ''Changing Cabins''. Then followed "Your Love Is Lifting Me" and "24 Hours a Day". There was due to be a second album, entitled ''Different Drum'', but this never materialised. ''Record Mirror'' was a British weekly music newspaper between 1954 and 1991 for pop fans and record collectors. Launched two years after the ''NME'', it never attained the circulation of its rival. James Hamilton (25 December 1942 – 17 June 1996) was a British DJ and dance music columnist for ''Record Mirror'', and later for ''Music Week'', where he worked until his death in 1996. He is recognised as a pioneering advocate of disco mixing in the UK and the addition of beats per minute (bpm) calculations to record reviews. Hamilton started as a DJ in his early 20s, playing rhythm & blues in a nightclubs in London. He then headed to New York to work for Seltaeb, the US company who’d acquired the merchandising rights for The Beatles, becoming a talent scout for their newly formed music division. Larry Flick is an American journalist, former dance music columnist, single reviewer, and Senior Talent Editor for ''Billboard'' magazine, where he worked for 14 years. Now he produces and hosts Sirius XM radio shows. Flick started in the music business at 21 as a college radio rep at a company called Gold Mountain.
