$30 Film School
''$30 Film School'' is a book written by Michael W. Dean on how to make films on a limited budget, and is part of the $30 School book series which includes ''$30 Music School'' and ''$30 Writing School''. Like the other books of this series, ''$30 Film School'' advocates a start-to-finish DIY ethic, and includes interviews with professionals in the given field, as well as a CD or DVD of extras. The second edition was released in March 2006, and included a DVD featuring software, tutorials, and 14 short films by graduates of the first edition. The book is used in college and university media courses on filmmaking, such as Ammattikorkeakoulu, Humanistinen Ammattikorkeakoulu (university of applied sciences) in Finland, It was reported that at age 9, and by following instructions in the book, filmmaker Emma Kenney created the film ''The New Girl in Town'' which was shown at New Jersey Film Festival, New Jersey International Film Festival. O'Reilly Media (formerly O'Reilly & Associates) is an American learning company established by Tim O'Reilly that publishes books, produces tech conferences, and provides an online learning platform. Its distinctive brand features a woodcut of an animal on many of its book covers. Company Early days The company began in 1978 as a private consulting firm doing technical writing, based in the Cambridge, Massachusetts area. In 1984, it began to retain publishing rights on manuals created for Unix vendors. A few 70-page "Nutshell Handbooks" were well-received, but the focus remained on the consulting business until 1988. After a conference displaying O'Reilly's preliminary Xlib manuals attracted significant attention, the company began increasing production of manuals and books. The original cover art consisted of animal designs developed by Edie Freedman because she thought that Unix program names sounded like "weird animals".
