Municipalities of Germany

Municipalities (German: Gemeinden, pronounced; singularGemeinde) are the lowest level of official territorial division in Germany. Article 28, paragraph 2 of the German constitution provides for the right of Gemeinden to freely govern the affairs of their local community.
