Butana plain

The Butana (Arabic: البطانة, Buṭāna), historically called the Island of Meroë, is the region between the Atbara and the Nile in Sudan. South of Khartoum it is bordered by the Blue Nile and in the east by Lake Tana in Ethiopia.
