Western reserve

The Western Reserve name is preserved in numerous institutional names in Ohio, such as Case Western Reserve University, Western Reserve Hospital, and Western Reserve Transit Authority. In the 19th century, the Western Reserve "was probably the most intensely antislavery section of the country". John Brown Jr. called it, in 1859, "the New England of the West".
