Shahpura State

The State of Shahpura or Princely State of Shahpura was a princely state in Shahpura, Bhilwara during the era of British India. Its relations with the British were managed by the Rajputana Agency. The last ruler of Shahpura signed the accession to join the Indian Union in 1949.
Shahpura, as part of Ajmer, came to be held as a direct grant under the British – the previous ruler of Ajmer, Maharaja Daulat Rao Sindhia of Gwalior, having ceded Ajmer to the East India Company on 25 June 1818 as a result of the Third Anglo-Maratha War. The Raja Dhiraj – Shahpura's ruler – also held an estate under the Maharaja of Udaipur. Up until 1869, Shahpura was under the supervision of the Commissioner of Ajmer, after which it was transferred to the Haraoti and Tonk Agency, which had its headquarters at Deoli and also dealt with the states of Tonk and Bundito.
