Development of the novel sequence
Although sequences of genre fiction are sometimes not considered to be romans-fleuves, novel sequences are particularly common in science fiction and epic fantasy genres. Recurring, self-consistent genre fiction settings are often called fictional universes, and the individual narrative works in such a setting are said to form a continuity or canon.
