Reorganisation in 1956
On 1 January 1956, the War Office was officially renamed as the Ministry of Defence. GeneralNe Win became the first Chief of Staff of the Tatmadaw (Myanmar Armed Forces) to command all three services – Army, Navy and Air Force – under a single unified command for the first time.
