Early life
Morita Tama was born in Sapporo, Hokkaido, as the second daughter of Muraoka Jiemon and his wife Yoshino. In 1907, she enrolled in the Sapporo Women's High School, but was forced to drop out in 1909 due to illness. In 1911, she contributed a short article to the literary journalShojo Sekai, which was well received, and the same year she married and moved with her husband to Tokyo.
