Loop diuretic

Loop diuretics are drugs that are often used for the treatment of hypertension and edema secondary to congestive heart failure, liver cirrhosis, or chronic kidney disease. Their effect, like all diuretics, is to cause the body to excrete more water in the urine. Loop diuretics are more effective than thiazide diuretics in patients with impaired kidney function. They get their name because they affect cells in a structure in the kidney called the loop of Henle.
